Air Fryer Bread

I use this versatile air fryer bread for all sorts of delicious dishes. It’s perfect for making kid-approved air fryer French toast sticks and air fryer grilled cheese sandwiches. You can also use this dough to make a batch of dinner rolls, breadsticks, or garlic knots.

But I have to confess that my very favorite way to enjoy it is straight from the air fryer, still warm and slathered with butter and jam or honey.

FAQs

Can I use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour?

Yes, you can use whole wheat flour instead or substitute part of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. You’ll want to keep in mind that whole wheat flour may result in a denser texture.

Can I let the dough rise overnight in the refrigerator?

Yes, you can refrigerate the dough overnight for a slow rise. I like to use this as a time-saving hack and to enhance the flavor of the bread. Note that you do need to allow time for the dough to come up to room temperature and rise again before cooking in the air fryer.

Can I use active dry yeast instead of instant yeast?

It is possible to use active dry yeast instead of instant yeast. However, you will need to activate the dry yeast with sugar in warm water before adding it to the dry ingredients. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proofing the yeast.

How can I tell if the bread is cooked on the inside?

There are a few ways you can tell if bread is fully baked. Insert a toothpick in the center of the loaf, and if it comes out clean, the bread is cooked through. You can also use a digital thermometer to check the internal temperature. Most breads are done when they reach 190 degrees F / 88 degrees C.
And many people rely on tapping the bottom of the loaf. If it sounds hollow, the bread is probably done.
