- Preheat the air fryer to 370 degrees F / 180 degrees C.
- Break eggs into a shallow bowl and whisk. Then mix in the milk, vanilla and cinnamon.
- Cut the slices of bread vertically to create sticks (I cut mine into thirds).
- Next, dip the bread into the egg mixture quickly (don’t let it sit too long) to coat each side. Shake off the excess egg mixture.
- Place french toast sticks into the air fryer basket in a single layer , making sure the pieces do not touch.
- Air fry for about 5 minutes on side one, flip and cook for an additional 2-3 mins. Exact cook time will depend on how crunchy you prefer your French toast sticks to be.

Chef’s Tip: Don’t leave the bread in the egg custard or it will get too saturated and fall apart. Simply give it a quick dip, drain off the excess, and get it into the air fryer straight away.

FAQs
While most any bread can be used to make Air Fryer French Toast Sticks, using bread that is slightly stale (at least day old) is key. This is because drier bread will absorb the egg mixture without becoming too soggy and falling apart.
I have also found that hearty bread like Brioche works best. It soaks up the custard but still holds its shape when being cooked, giving you a nicely crispy outside whilst staying soft and chewy inside.
Other dense breads like challah, sourdough and even thick-sliced Texas Toast are good choices as well.
The great thing about the air fryer is that it is a healthier way to cook up all your favourite fried foods. Since the air fryer circulates heat around all sides of the food, you can ‘fry’ your food using the smallest amount of oil.
Or in the case of these Air Fryer French Toast Sticks, no oil at all! Yeap, absolute perfection.
At 370 degrees F , I find you need 6-7 minutes to cook these. But remember all air fryer cook differently.

Storage
- Make ahead – you can make few batches of these ahead of time and then store in the freezer.
- Freeze. Yeap, you can make these and then store in the freezer. Then simply reheat in the air fryer and serve, or you can even use the microwave for a super quick and easy breakfast to go.

Good recipe, however there was a LOT more egg mixture left after using the 4 slices of bread. I didn’t want to waste it so ended up air frying a total of 9 slices of bread.
