Prepare the Pop Tarts:

  1. Lay out both pie crusts and cut each into 8 rectangles. Spoon around 1 Tablespoon into the middle of the rectangle and brush the edges with milk.
  2. Top each with another pie crust rectangle. And with the help of a fork, seal the edges. Poke holes in the top of the tart.
  3. Repeat the process with the rest of the rectangles, creating 8 finished tarts.
  4. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Cook The Pop Tarts:

  1. In a small bowl, combine egg yolk and milk and then brush the top of each tart with the egg wash.
  2. Preheat the Air Fryer to 350F/180C.
  3. Place 2-4 tarts in a single layer in the air fryer basket, depending on the size of your basket.

How To Make Homemade Pop Tarts In The Oven

  1. Preheat oven to 350F/180C.
  2. Follow the instructions for preparing the filling and the pop tarts from Air Fryer section.
  3. Then, place tarts on a cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and flaky.
  4. Let them cool completely. Prepare the glaze and finish the pop tarts by following the steps above.

Recipe Tips

  • If you don’t have fresh berries to make homemade jam, you can use a prepared jam instead
  • Since Air Fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model, I recommend starting with less time, checking for doneness, and then adding more time as needed.
  • Change up the filling. Try finely chopped apples and cinnamon or a Nutella and chocolate mix.
  • No matter how well you crimp and seal the edges with a fork, some of the filling may leak out, but that’s okay. Just scrape it off the tart and enjoy.
  • These Air Fryer pop tarts are good with or without the glaze.

Meal Prep And Prep Ahead

Cook up a big batch of these fruity pastries because they can be easily stored in the fridge or freezer until you need it.

Prep Ahead – Make ahead and refrigerate for up toa week in an airtight container.

Freeze – Yes, it is possible to prepare your pop tarts in advance and then store in the freezer until you are ready to cook.

  • Freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet right after glazing them.
  • Once frozen, you can transfer them into a ziplock bag, labeled and stored flat for up to 3 months.
  •  To bake them straight from frozen you will need to reheat in Air Fryer for 6-8 minutes or on 350F/180C in the oven until warm.

FAQs

Why Won’t My Filling Stick To The Bottom Pie Crust?

Sometimes this is a problem. I find that if you brush the bottom pie crust with egg wash, this helps them stick together.

Can You Put These Homemade Tarts In The Toaster?

I recommend making these in the Air Fryer or Oven, following the instructions. But you can drop them in the toaster to warm them up a bit before enjoying like you would a store-bought one.
