What Are Crullers?
Cruller are a pastry made by twisting dough to make a fluted shape before deep frying. Crullers get their name from the Dutch term kruller, which means ‘to curl’.
There are different variations of crullers, but the popular French crullers are made from a light, airy dough that is twisted into a round ring shape. Crullers are often served plain, but can be topped with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or royal icing.
So, are you ready to learn how to make these air fried pumpkin spiced crullers? Then gather up those ingredients and I will show you…..
How To Make Air Fryer Pumpkin Spiced Crullers
- Preheat the Air Fryer to 360F / 182C.
- Cut parchment paper into 4-inch squares. Spray each square with cooking spray. Do not skip this step or your crullers will stick!
- Add the butter, sugar, salt, pumpkin pie spice, pumpkin purée, water and evaporated milk to a saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Then lower the heat to medium and add in the flour. Stir quickly until flour is incorporated and you can see the mixture pulling away from the sides of the saucepan.
- Next, transfer the mixture to a stand mixer. Use the paddle attachment and mix on medium speed for 4 mins.
- Add the eggs one at a time, and then add the vanilla extract. Continue to mix until combined.
- Then transfer the dough to a piping bag that is fitted with a large star tip.
- Starting in the middle of each piece of parchment, pipe the dough into a ring shape.
- Carefully place the parchment squares with piped crullers inside the air fryer basket, making sure they do not touch (you will need to cook your crullers in batches).
- Cook for 15 mins at 360F / 182C.
- Then transfer to a cooling rack that is placed on top of a baking tray.
- To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice and milk in a bowl.
- Dip the tops of the cooled crullers into the glaze, then return to the cooling rack until glaze has set.
- If desired, sprinkle additional pumpkin pie spice on top of the glaze.
Air Fryer Pumpkin Spiced Crullers Tips
- Air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model. I recommend starting with less cook time, checking for doneness, then add more time as needed.
- Make sure to not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Allow plenty of room on all sides of your crullers so they cook evenly.
- For even more delicious fall flavor, try adding a bit of maple syrup to the glaze.
