Tips for Success

  • Keep a close eye on them near the end of the cooking time as they go from golden to burn very quickly.
  • Also note, these crisp up as they cool down, so don’t try and overcook them if they seem a little soft at the end of cook time.
  • If you prefer round Air Fryer Tortilla Chips, then use a cookie cutter to cut out circles.
  • You can use a pizza cutter instead of a knife if you prefer.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer, lay chips in the air fryer basket in a single layer so that the air circulates around the chips. You will need to air fry them in batches.
  • Use long tongs to carefully turn your air fried tortilla chips over halfway through cooking.
  • You can absolutely make this with your favorite low carb tortillas.
  • Flour tortillas can be used, but the cooking time will be different.
  • Air Fryer temperatures vary depending on the make and model, so use the cooking times listed as a guide, check for doneness and adjust as needed.
  • Make some amazing Air Fryer Nachos by topping them with salsa, seasoned black beans, and melted cheese. #somuchyum

Delicious Variations

I have kept this version simple so that it can be served with EVERYTHING. However, you can customize it all the ways, like sprinkle with salt and more;

  • Make it herby – add in herbs like oregano, dried thyme, or dried parsley
  • Make it spicy –  add red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, chili powder, or curry powder.
  • Make it tangy – squeeze on some lime juice or lemon juice before air frying.
  • Make it sweet – toss the homemade tortilla chips in cinnamon sugar.

Prep Ahead and Storage

  • Prep Ahead – cut tortillas into triangle wedges and store in an airtight container until ready to cook.
  • Store – Let them cool completely before storing them in an airtight container at room temperature for about 5 days.
  • Reheat – Warm them up in the air fryer at 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C for a couple of minutes.
  • Freeze – I don’t recommend freezing these air fryer tortilla chips.

FAQs

How Do You Know When The Chips Are Done?

Depending on if you like them crispier, but when the edges start turning golden brown is a good sign they’re done. Pull them out as they go from golden crispy to burned very fast.

How Long Do You Cook These In The Air Fryer?

Depends on how crispy you like them and your air fryer cooking time. Since air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model, this recipe includes a range of suggested cook times. I recommend starting with less time, checking for doneness, and then adding more time as needed.

What is the Best Tortilla For This?

I have tried low carb tortillas, flour tortillas, and corn tortillas, and I think corn tortillas give the best results with nicely cooked chips. Start with your favorite brand, compare them to a couple of other brands and see which you prefer.
