How To Make Air Fryer Wontons

  1. Combine cream cheese, garlic, and chives in a small bowl and mix together until smooth.
  2. Scoop a small amount into the wrapper, dampen the edges with water, and fold to seal the edges. 
  3. Preheat Air Fryer to 350 degrees F  / 180 degrees C. 
  4. Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray, then add the wontons to the air fryer basket. Lightly spray the wontons with oil and air fry for 6-8 minutes, turning halfway through, and cook until golden brown.
  5. Serve immediately.

How To Deep Fry Cream Cheese Wontons

  1. Heat 2-inches of cooking oil to 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C in a pan with deep sides over medium high heat.
  2. When the oil has come to temperature, add the wontons and fry for 2-3 minutes until lightly golden brown.
  3. Place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain off the excess oil. 

How To Bake Chinese Wontons

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C. 
  2. Line a baking tray with parchment or a silicone mat and add the wontons in a single layer on the try. 
  3. Brush the wontons with an egg wash and bake for about 10 minutes or until golden in color.

How To Fold Wontons

Folding wontons is a simple process. The keys are not to overfill and not to over moisten. 

  1. Lay a wonton wrapper on your work surface and add a small scoop of filling. 
  2. Dip your finger into water and moisten the edge of the wonton wrapper. 
  3. Fold the wonton wrapper in half to form a triangle and gently press to seal the wontons. 
  4. Set aside and repeat until you have used all of the filling.

  • Bring the cream cheese to room temperature before making the filling. 
  • Finely chop the green onions before adding to the mixture. 
  • Don’t overfill wontons or they will be difficult to seal and the filling will ooze out during frying. 
  • When folding the cream cheese wontons, don’t over moisten the edges or the wontons can become soggy.
  • Spray the tray where you set the wontons before frying with a light coating of oil to prevent them from sticking. 
  • Place finished wontons under a damp paper towel while you work to keep them from drying out. 
  • Leave space between the wontons or they may stick together and become chewy instead of crispy.

  • Store – Cooked air fryer wontons can be refrigerated in an airtight container for 1 to 2 days. Place them in single layers on a plate separated by paper towels.
  • Reheat – in the air fryer at 400 degrees F / 200 degrees C for 2 minutes or on a baking tray in the oven at 325 degrees F / 160 degrees C for 5-8 minutes.
  • Freeze – Follow the handy tips below for how to freeze these cooked or uncooked;
    • Place wontons in a single layer on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and freeze for 1 hour.

  • 16 ounces (454g) cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons minced chives or green onions
