Apartment Hotel Hamburg: Appartello Smarttime Living

Apartment Hotel Hamburg review: Appartello Smart Living is a great place to stay for both a weekend break or a longer trip. Recipesfromapantry.com

We have just recently spent a fantastic 3 nights in Hamburg. Arriving after a rather long 6-hour journey (we live a long way from the airport), we arrived with two tired kids in tow and made our way straight to our accommodation at Appartello Smarttime Living to freshen up and recharge.

After a very quick and painless check in process, we were handed our keys and up to our apartment we went. We walked into a clean, bright, tastefully designed, modern apartment that we could immediately relax in. The welcome note and the box of chocolates (along with the furry toys the kids got given) certainly helped make us feel very welcome.

Our apartment had one bedroom, but the lounge area had been cleverly designed to be used as an open plan second bedroom. The kids had the first bedroom whilst we took the lounge bedroom as we definitely needed to be near the food and drink after the kids had gone off to bed 🙂

The kitchen area

The kitchen area definitely makes or breaks a self-catering holiday for me. This one was clean and had all the conveniences needed – a dishwasher, fridge, cooker and oven, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and enough cookware and dinnerware to keep us going. My kids absolutely loved the raised breakfast bar and spent many a moment there eating, drawing and generally planning their next excursion.

Breakfast

You can eat breakfast in either the bright airy breakfast room or on the terrace out in the sun.

The breakfast buffet has a great range of items including pastries, fresh bread rolls, sandwiches, muffins, a range of fruit juices and speciality coffee. For those who want healthier option you get the chance to choose from items such as quark, granola and yoghurt.

The main thing about the breakfast is that it gives the traditional German breakfast of bread or ‘brotchen’ with ham or cheese plus pickles on it, and the more generalised continental style breakfast.

Perfect – it is the truly modern variety where you can pick and mix tradition and cosmopolitan ideas. Plus of course it is good. The coffee is good – there are few places where the normal coffee is both strong and tasty, but this is certainly one of them.

And, for parents, there is a play corner, with a model railway. Absolutely wanted by the kiddoes who would sit and play for half an hour or more while we sat back, one of us reading a book the other reading the paper. In fact, the breakfast room also included a lounge area which gets you out of your apartment and is a useful place for business meetings or even just to use the business suite and print out airline tickets, emails and just surf the net.

Location

The location is great. Nice and close to the airport, with good transport into the city centre. The bus stop is about 2 mins walk from the apartment but if you prefer you could walk about 15 mins through a lovely park to the nearest train. There are lots of shops, parks and playgrounds within a few mins walk. Basically easy – not too city centre compressed and not rural. Just comfortable.
