Ingredient Notes
In this easy recipe, you’ll combine bacon, asparagus, oil and optional seasonings to make a delicious appetizer. Follow my tips on each ingredient for best results.
- Bacon strips – I prefer smoked and regular cut slices of bacon for the best crispness. Use your favorite type of bacon, or turkey bacon or prosciutto and experiment with different flavors. For thicker bacon, cut the bacon slices lengthwise.
- Asparagus – You need fresh asparagus with equally sized stalks sizes for even cooking. I think medium to thick sized stalks work best, as thinner ones may overcook before the bacon cooks through. Make sure to trim or break off the woody ends before cooking. For smaller asparagus, bundle 3-4 together before wrapping with bacon. For larger, thicker spears of asparagus, wrapping a single spear in bacon works well. The cooking time should remain the same.
- Oil – select any light, neutral-flavored oil, that you already own.
- Soy Sauce – I prefer tamari as it is gluten free, but low sodium soy sauce works too.
- Seasonings – Season with garlic salt, ground black pepper and fresh rosemary.

Bintu’s Tips And Variations
I really love switching things up in the kitchen. Here are some tips for easier cooking and variations for you to try if you want something a little different.
- Line the baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- For extra crispy bacon, cook them on an oven safe wire rack over a baking sheet.
- Hold bacon together with a toothpick if needed, but remove before serving.
- Drizzle on treats – I love adding flavor via a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, balsamic glaze, maple syrup or honey before serving. Grated parmesan cheese works great too.
- Vary the seasonings – Sub in your favorite seasoning blends. I am a fan of smoked paprika, brown sugar and a dash of red pepper flakes.

Prep And Storage
- Prep Ahead – Prep the asparagus stems and wrap them with the bacon up to 8 hours in advance. Place on a baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate till needed.
- Store – Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat – To reheat, use the oven at 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C for 8-10 minutes. You can enjoy these cold or reheat them in the microwave. The bacon will not be as crispy when reheated.
- Freeze – I don’t recommend freezing.
