Baked Sweet Potato Fries
So, I am just going to put this out there.
These will be the best baked sweet potato fries of your life. Seriously.
These are lip smacking, smoky paprika’y’, just one more sweet potato fry good. And since they are baked, they are guilt free in my book. So I have them as a snack, served along some burgers or as a dinner side. And emmm, well when ever really.
Plus lets chat about some other good bits.
- They are baked – guilt free.
- Sweet potatoes are apparently full of the good carbohydrates – Ok, so even more guilt free.
- Kiddoes love them – veggies in their belly.
- You can change the taste with various spices – hot, hot, hot.
- And they taste good – yeap.
Please feel free to share some of your sweet potato recipes below.
And believe it or not I love serving these with this parmesan crusted chicken.
Someone gave me some La Chinata smoked paprika powder. I love it. In my opinion it is the best smoked paprika powder I have come across and made these sweet potato fries just gorgeous.

Baked Sweet Potato Fries
Ingredients
For the sweet potato fries:
- 450 g (1lb) sweet potatoes
- 2 tsp corn flour cornstarch
- 1 tsp smoked paprika I used La Chinata
- Salt optional
- 1-2 tbsp olive oil enough to coat potatoes
For the garlic chilli mayonnaise:
- 6 tbsp garlic mayonnaise
- 3 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven to fan assisted 200C / 220C / 425F / gas 7.
- Cut the ends of the sweet potatoes, peel them and cut into fries - try and cut them into even sizes so that they cook at the same rate.
- Put potatoes into a ziplock bag (or a bowl ) add the corn flour, paprika and salt if using and shake to coat the potatoes.
- If excess flour remains at the bottom of the bag then shake it out.
- Add the oil to the potatoes and mix again till the potatoes are fully coated.
- Transfer the fries to a non stick baking tray - spreading them out in a single layer with space between them.
- Bake for about 15 mins then turn the fries over so that they cook on the other side.
- Bake for another 15 mins till they are crispy (the edges might be a little bit brown but that just adds to the sweet taste).
- Take them out of the oven and let them cool for about 5 mins.
- Mix the garlic mayonnaise and chilli sauce together till very are very well combined.
- Serve the fries with portions of the garlicky dipping sauce - omit the mayonnaise if serving vegans.
- The best baked sweet potato fries ever.

Yummy, love sweet potato, fantastic recipe. I’ll be trying this very soon!!
Hi Bintu,
I love your recipes and always give ’em a go..but I have to say my sweet tats have become encrusted with powdery corn flour, though it’s a beautiful colour… I think maybe too much flour has gone on it, and it doesn’t look so great.. though I’m gonna eat them anyway 🙂
yum, I love sweet potatoes. Must try these x
These look great, I have tried them just the once ,will try adding cornflour next time!
These look so delicious Bintu! I love sweet potato fries, and never would have thought to add paprika…that’s brilliant. 🙂 I came over from Zainab’s to check out your site!!
Nice to meet you Lisa. I am going t come and say hello.
Bintu these look great, sweet potatoes going on my shopping list today so I can make them!
Let me know how it goes Anna.
I used to make these often when my kids were little and thanks for the reminder as I will do them again. Never used the cornflour before. I am addicted to La Chinata in all its strengths and variations. In fact I have a display of all my empties on my kitchen windowsill
I am going to copy you with the display Madeleine. That would lok good I bet.
Great minds! You can’t beat sweet potato wedges with smoked paprika, just the most lovely thing, and so much tastier and better for you than oven chips. Will definitely give your sweet chilli and garlic mayo a try too x
It is one of my favs and easy dips that I serve.
LOVE sweet potato fries, usually make mine with sweet smoked paprika too (or hot if they’re just for me). I’m guessing the addition of the corn flour makes them extra crispy which is ordinarily more difficult to achieve with sweet potatoes than normal spuds?
There seems to be an art to getting sweet potatoes crispy. Corn flour is one of the ways to make it easier.
I really need to stock up on sweet potatoes…and these fries look great and healthy!! Dropping by from SITS
Thanks for dropping in Janelle. Nice to meet you.
Bintu your photos are so good! Fries look drool worthy!
😀
I love love love sweet potato (or kumara as they’re called over here) fries, they are so much tastier than standard potato fries. I love the addition of paprika, I’ve used that and coconut oil before and they were super tasty!
Ohhhh Amanda. Where is over here?
