Baked Sweet Potato Fries
So, I am just going to put this out there.
These will be the best baked sweet potato fries of your life. Seriously.
These are lip smacking, smoky paprika’y’, just one more sweet potato fry good. And since they are baked, they are guilt free in my book. So I have them as a snack, served along some burgers or as a dinner side. And emmm, well when ever really.
Plus lets chat about some other good bits.
- They are baked – guilt free.
- Sweet potatoes are apparently full of the good carbohydrates – Ok, so even more guilt free.
- Kiddoes love them – veggies in their belly.
- You can change the taste with various spices – hot, hot, hot.
- And they taste good – yeap.
Please feel free to share some of your sweet potato recipes below.
And believe it or not I love serving these with this parmesan crusted chicken.
Someone gave me some La Chinata smoked paprika powder. I love it. In my opinion it is the best smoked paprika powder I have come across and made these sweet potato fries just gorgeous.

Baked Sweet Potato Fries
Ingredients
For the sweet potato fries:
- 450 g (1lb) sweet potatoes
- 2 tsp corn flour cornstarch
- 1 tsp smoked paprika I used La Chinata
- Salt optional
- 1-2 tbsp olive oil enough to coat potatoes
For the garlic chilli mayonnaise:
- 6 tbsp garlic mayonnaise
- 3 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven to fan assisted 200C / 220C / 425F / gas 7.
- Cut the ends of the sweet potatoes, peel them and cut into fries - try and cut them into even sizes so that they cook at the same rate.
- Put potatoes into a ziplock bag (or a bowl ) add the corn flour, paprika and salt if using and shake to coat the potatoes.
- If excess flour remains at the bottom of the bag then shake it out.
- Add the oil to the potatoes and mix again till the potatoes are fully coated.
- Transfer the fries to a non stick baking tray - spreading them out in a single layer with space between them.
- Bake for about 15 mins then turn the fries over so that they cook on the other side.
- Bake for another 15 mins till they are crispy (the edges might be a little bit brown but that just adds to the sweet taste).
- Take them out of the oven and let them cool for about 5 mins.
- Mix the garlic mayonnaise and chilli sauce together till very are very well combined.
- Serve the fries with portions of the garlicky dipping sauce - omit the mayonnaise if serving vegans.
- The best baked sweet potato fries ever.

This looks delicious. Where did you find the garlic mayonnaise?
I used a brand available in the UK called Stokes Garlic Mayonnaise.
I like to make sweet potato fries with cumin, chili powder, salt, and lime juice. I like the paprika idea. I think I need to invest in some good, smokey paprika, so I can try your version!
I like your version – I will certainly try this.
I’ve never made sweet potato fries before–but I recently made sweet potato hash! Boy, was that tasty!!
That would be fun to try. Do you have a recipe up?
They definitely look good! I’ve never had baked sweet potato fries. I tried them fried a long time ago. Of course, I know that it would be better to eat them baked. I was surprised to see the paprika used in them. Interesting….
Seriously the smoky paprika works a treat with them Sharon.
I have the same smoked paprika and that brand is delicious!!!
It is fab isn’t it Diatta.
I love sweet potato fries – much healthier than the regular sort so you can indulge!
All these comments has now got me reaching for my bag of sweet potatoes.
Baked sweet potato fries are a huge favourite in our house. So much better than regular fries.
I feel bad for abandoning the other potato – but I can’t help it. Def a regular in my kitchen from now on.
Sweet potato fries-swoon!
I am a huge fan of these, but have never made them myself. I wouldn’t have thought of adding the spices, but they sound terrific!
Visiting from Let’s Get Real.
Thanks for stopping by Kim and swooning with me.
Oooo these sound yummy. I’ve tried sweet potato but not fries.
Hi Michelle, thanks so much for stopping by – I hope you try and enjoy these.
Oh and that orange colour has got to be a good sign too. These look incredibly tasty and I bet they are just fab with paprika.
I think I am a fan of all things orange.
I love sweet potatoes!! We try them loads of way and chips are especially yummy. I recently had avacado chips in a restaurant – basically don’t bother, too weird!!
Heidie – I am with you on that one. Seems pretty weird.
I love sweet potato fries and homemade are even better 🙂 And of course, baked is even better – less fat and more retained nutrition. These look and sound delicious, Bintu…
Thanks JV

I am glad I get to make you drool E. That is a great honour…
This is fantastic, Bintu! Truth…I came into sweet potatoes late in life. I have no idea how I got it wrong in my noggin’. Last year a buddy and I stopped at a fast food restaurant and he told me, “Dude, you gotta try the sweet potato fries…they are amazing.” I did, and was immediately hooked! I had wanted a recipe that was baked and not deep fried to make them…and lookey what just landed in my computer lap! Your recipe! Thank you! Your food photography is absolutely amazing… 🙂
Hey Mike – I am very pleased you stopped by. And welcome to the sweet potato love club.
I’ve only tried these frozen ::hangs head in shame::, so I’m so excited to give this recipe a whirl! Thanks!
Jess – we all use frozen for convenient meals – no shame.
I LOVE sweet potato fries, much more than regular fries!
Yeah, these kind of have that effect on you.

I LOVE sweet potato fries/chips and I recently shared a recipe for them with masala sprinkled over them, but I bet your pimenton was LOVELY too! Karen
Ohhhhh. That’s an idea Karen.
I am not too fond of sweet potatoes but I’ve also never tried them as chips!I might just become a fan.
Goodness. You are def missing out on some yumminess.
We love baked sweet potato fries in our house and have it at least once a week The smoked paprika really enhances the yumminess of the dish. Apart from the peeling, it doesn’t take much effort to bake them. I love your pictures.
I tend to have more chips than sweet potato chips. Something I intend to change.
