How To Make Boiled Corn On The Cob

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil.
  2. Add corn, making sure it is fully submerged in the water. 
  3. Cover and cook for 3-6 minutes or until done to your likening.
  4. Drain the corn and serve warm with butter, salt, and pepper to taste.

Pro Tips

  • Shuck the corn before adding it to the water.
  • Fill a large pot with cold water. Add hot water if you want the water to come to a boil more quickly. 
  • Use a great pot to cook things more easily.
  • Cut the corn cobs in half, if desired. 
  • Salted boiling water will add flavor but will not make the corn overly salty. 
  • If you cover the pot while cooking the corn, it will retain the heat better, cooking faster. 
  • Corn will turn bright yellow as it cooks.
  • Brush the corn on the cob with melted butter and sprinkle with salt and pepper before serving.

  • Add Seasonings – After you boil corn on the cob, spread with butter and add your favorite seasonings. Salt and pepper are a favorite, but chili powder and lemon pepper are also really flavorful. I love using Italian Seasoning. Use other spices to your taste.
  • Add Cheese – Cheesy corn on the cob is so good! Take your corn to a whole new level by sprinkling it in parmesan cheese.
  • Make Mexican Street Corn – After boiling the corn on the cob, slather it in mayonnaise and roll it in finely crumbled Cotija or feta cheese. Season with chili powder, garlic and cilantro.

  • Prep Ahead – Corn on the cob tastes best when boiled just before serving. 
  • Store – Leftover corn can be stored in the fridge for 5 days in container like these. Reheat in the microwave or in boiling water. 
  • Freeze – For best results, freeze corn before heating.

Corn on the cob boiled in milk is a delicious and popular way to cook corn. Simply add one cup of fresh milk to the boiling water before adding the corn. The milk imparts a sweet flavor to the corn. 

Can I Grill Corn After Boiling?

Grilled corn can take a while to cook, and you risk overcooking corn on the grill. When making corn on the grill, boil it beforehand to heat it through, then toss it on the grill to get nice grill marks. Add butter and serve. 

Can I Boil Frozen Corn On The Cob?

Follow the same recipe for frozen corn. You may need to add a few minutes to the cooking time.
