It was great seeing my fellow foodies fall in love with the food and the chef at the Brassiere, Guoman Hotel. Me, well I was already hooked from my visit a year ago and it only got better. This time we came along to sample their new summer menu, which focuses on locally sourced, British food. I am keeping my eye out for their planned vegetable rooftop garden.
The evening kicked off at the really cool new outside bar area overlooking the River Thames and in the shadow of the imposing Tower Bridge. It is a great place to hang out especially in the warm weather and it became more magical as darkness descended and the lights from the bridge twinkled away. We chatted away over some really gorgeous cocktails and fizz before heading inside for our feast. And a feast it was, especially as each course came matched with a carefully chosen wine all introduced enthusiastically by the new chef Kamaldeep Singh.
I started with a light thin crispy puff pastry base topped with grilled vegetables and finished off with a really good goat’s cheese, tomato salsa and a drizzle balsamic reduction. The flavours were light and summery which I really appreciated. I was very pleased that the vegetable toppings did not have any eggs, which can sometimes make pastry cloying and heavy.
Then came the crispy pan-fried fillet of sea bass served with a diver scallop completed perfectly with caper crushed potatoes and a mixed bean salad.
I am a huge fan of pork belly and order it a lot when I go out to restaurants. So I happily tucked into the delicious Gloucestershire pork belly served with some burnt celeriac, savoy cabbage, apples and calvados sauce. I was not quite brave enough to lick my plate after at the end – but I almost did. Seriously.
I had carefully made sure to cut down on drinks so that I was not too full for dessert. Boy oh boy did I make the right decision. The trio of white chocolate panna cotta, summer berry cheesecake, and pistachio ice cream were beyond lush and were quickly downed by everyone along with the accompanying margarita.
Folks, it really was good good food which has only served to remind me that I ought to treat my OH to a meal there someday. And I will, soon. You should check it out too.
I would like to thank the Guoman Tower Hotel for inviting me along to review their restaurant. All opinions are my own.
