Recipe Highlights
- This sweet shooter is the perfect dessert shot for parties, the holidays, or just after dinner drinks or after work drinks. I got you.
- It tastes just like butterscotch pudding. So, so good.
- It is easy to scale up the recipe for a crowd.
- Instead of party shots, you can serve them up as cocktails instead.

Ingredient Notes
- Irish Cream – I tend to use Bailey’s Irish Cream for this, but please use whichever Irish cream you like. Make sure it is a good quality one though otherwise, the shots will not taste as nice
- Butterscotch Schnapps – This butterscotch liquor gives it the candy flavor. Again, use the best quality one you can find.

How to Make A Buttery Nipple Shot
Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.
- Add the schnapps into your shot glass.
- Tilt the glass, hold a spoon over it, and very slowly pour the Bailey’s over the spoon, making sure the top of the spoon is level with the liquid in the glass.
- Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Tips And Variations
- I prefer getting the smaller Irish cream bottles enough for making a few shots at a time so I use up an open bottle quickly. Larger bottles tend to have a shelf life of about 6 months, so work out what size bottle to get depending on how often you make these.
- Be sure to not hold the spoon too high over the top of the shot glass, or you will end up mixing the shooter ingredients.
- It is normal for ingredients to look like they’re mixing, even when using a spoon. Just let them settle for a few minutes, and as long as you have been careful, they tend to separate again.
- If you are not bothered about the 2 layers, then feel free to mix the ingredients together.
- Also, add more or less of all the ingredients depending on how weak or strong you prefer your drinks.
- Friends, these sweet shots go down easily, so please make sure to drink responsibly and be mindful of your consumption.

Delicious Variations
- I love serving this buttery nipple drink with a dollop of whipped cream on top as it looks even more stunning (you’ll just need to eat the whipped cream before drinking the shot). However, they are eye-catching when served as a simple 2 layer shot.
- For a festive version, top whipped cream with colored sprinkles, e.g. red white and green for Christmas, orange for Thanksgiving, red white and blue for the 4th of July, etc.
- It would be interesting to try some peach schnapps for a different flavor profile.
- For a little extra color you can add in a bit of grenadine.
- For taste variations, you could reduce the amount of schnapps by about ½ ounce and replace it with amaretto, vodka, or Fireball cinnamon whisky. A friend says she likes it with white rum.
- Make the golden butterball using half cinnamon schnapps and butterscotch schnapps along with the Irish cream liqueur.
Storage
- These are best served immediately. Do not try and freeze them.
- Leftovers can be blended with ice into fun slushies.

FAQs
For the stunning effect, use a clear shot glass so you can see the 2 layer effect of the drink.
Feel free to add a caramel rim to your shot glass. Dip the glass in caramel sauce before dipping it in brown sugar or salted caramel chunks.
Make sure to start with a small spoon that will fit inside the shot glass. Place the spoon inside, making sure the top of the spoon is level with the liquid in the glass.
Then, very slowly and carefully pour the Bailey’s over the spoon, carefully raising the level of the spoon as the level of the liquid increases.
Another method is to carefully and slowly pour the Baileys over the back of the spoon that has been tilted to the side of the glass.
You can certainly do this. Scale up the recipe starting with 3 ounces of Butterscotch Schnapps and 1 ounce of Bailey’s Irish Cream.
Shake over ice in a cocktail shaker, strain, and serve.
