How To Make Homemade Margarita Rimming Mix
You will love combining sweet and salty to make your own margarita mix for rimming the glass.
- Combine ¼ cup sugar, 2 tablespoons Kosher salt, and 1 teaspoon of lime zest.
- Pour onto a plate.
- Wet the rim of each glass with water or lime juice.
- Dip each glass into the margarita rimming mix.
Pro Tips
- Both tequila and champagne can have high price points. Go all out and buy top-shelf versions of both or pick one to splurge on.
- Don’t forget to garnish. Rim the glass with homemade margarita salt and/or sugar and garnish with a lime.
- Pick a bottle of balanced champagne, rather than one that is too sweet or too dry.
Delicious Variations
- Go Pink – Pink is a lot of fun for a bridal shower or festive girls night out. Swap out the traditional champagne for pink champagne for a lovely twist.
- Try Vodka – No tequila on hand? No problem. Use vodka instead.
- Add Orange Juice – If you don’t have Triple Sec available, you can use fresh orange juice instead.

Storage
Champagne starts to go flat pretty quickly. I wouldn’t recommend making these cocktails in advance or trying to store any leftovers.
FAQs
We’ve included instructions for both, so it’s really a matter of personal preference. When stirred, it’s easier to serve in a rocks glass. When shaken, you can serve it in a champagne flute for a classier presentation.
Champagne can get expensive, so you may prefer to use sparkling wine instead. Prosecco, Cava, and Espumante are all great substitutes that may be available at a lower cost.
