Dark Chocolate Fudge Tips

  • Watch closely and stir frequently when combining the chocolate and other ingredients so it doesn’t burn.
  • Don’t forget to line the pan with parchment paper. This will help make it easy to remove from the pan before cutting.
  • Use a warm, serrated knife to cut the fudge into bite-sized pieces.
  • Make sure the fudge has hardened well before cutting to get neatly cut pieces.
  • Feel free to use a 9x9inch square pan. Fudge will have slightly less height but will work just as well.

Recipe Variations

The best thing about this chocolate fudge recipe (besides the taste) is that it is sooooo versatile. Here are some suggestions for changing it up:

  • Swap the M&Ms – purple, orange and green M&M’s are also fun for Halloween.
  • Change the candy – Use candy corn, candy eyes, or colored sprinkles for a different look.
  • Add dried fruit – bits of dried fruit can add fun and flavor.
  • Try other toppings – salty nuts, pretzels, and bits of cookies are delicious pressed into this fudge.
  • Add an extract – extracts can add fun flavors to fudge. Try mint or orange for a fun flavor twist.
  • Change the shape – Instead of cutting your fudge into squares, use cookie cutters to cut out Halloween shapes like pumpkins, ghosts, and bats.

Meal Prep and Prep Ahead

This Halloween Dark Chocolate Fudge recipe is perfect for prepping ahead.

Prep Ahead – Because this fudge stores so well you can make it in advance and store it as directed below.

Store – Fudge should always be stored in an airtight container. It will keep at room temperature for about 2 weeks, in the fridge for about 3 weeks and you can freeze for up to 3 months.

Freeze – Follow the handy tips below for how to freeze these;

  • Cut the fudge into individual pieces.
  • Wrap individual pieces in plastic wrap.
  • Store the individually wrapped pieces in a Ziploc bag or another airtight container.
  • Thaw by placing wrapped fudge on the counter until it reaches room temperature. Do not unwrap until completely thawed or the fudge will become sticky with condensation.
  • Freezer larger pieces of fudge the same way and cut after thawing.

FAQs

Do I Have To Use Dark Chocolate?

Since some people don’t like dark chocolate, you can easily substitute in milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, or even white chocolate.

Can I Make This Fudge Spicy?

Spicy fudge is a lot of fun. It’s a little unexpected and the flavor combination of chocolate and spicy heat is soooo tasty.

I recommend that you start with 1/8 teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper and a teaspoon of cinnamon to give your fudge a sweet and spicy kick.
