So yes, I’m speaking to all my pickle foodie lovers out there! Remember my delicious dill pickle cheese ball? Naturally, I had to incorporate dill pickles into one of my favorite things, dips! And yes, it’s loaded with dill pickles.

I always have a few jars which are handy when I need a quick, tasty snack or a fast and easy appetizer. It’s everything you love about pickles, mixed into a creamy dip that’s so simple to make.

Dill Pickle Dip Recipe

While it’s great if you can spare an hour to let the dip flavors meld, you can have this dip ready in just 15 minutes if you’re in a hurry. My family looooves that you can use whatever you have on hand and start dipping. We’re talking about chips, pretzels, and your favorite veggies.

And if you have any, slather the leftovers on your next sandwich or burger for an extra punch of flavor. Yep, it is so versatile too.

I usually make it the night before because it tastes even better the next day, and it’s one less thing to worry about. We love easy dips, especially in summer when we are super social. I particularly love whipping up cold dips, especially on those hot days.

Ingredient Notes

  • Cream Cheese – Use full-fat cream cheese for the best creamy texture. Make sure it’s softened at room temperature so it blends smoothly.
  • Sour Cream – This adds a nice tang to balance out the richness of the cream cheese. You can use regular or light sour cream, depending on your preference.
  • Dill Pickles – Finely chop the pickles so they mix well throughout the dip. They add that signature dill pickle flavor and a bit of crunch.
  • Fresh Dill Weed – Fresh dill is key for that bright, herby flavor. If fresh isn’t available, you can substitute with dried dill (use 1 teaspoon of dried for every tablespoon of fresh).
  • Garlic Powder & Onion Powder – These spices add a subtle depth of flavor without overpowering the dip. You can adjust the quantities based on your taste.
  • Salt – Adjust the salt to taste, keeping in mind that the pickles might add some saltiness.
  • Sliced Dill Pickles (for topping) – Optional but makes for a great garnish and adds extra pickle flavor.

How To Make Dill Pickle Dip

Whisking a creamy base of softened cream cheese and sour cream.

Step 1 – Combine the cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt in a bowl. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Step 2 – Add chopped dill pickles and fresh dill weed.

Mixing in the dill and dill weed into the base of the dip.

Step 3 – Stir to combine. Taste the dip and adjust the seasoning if needed.

Step 4 – Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and smooth out the top. Arrange a few small sliced dill pickles and dill weed on the dip for presentation.

  • Your cream cheese needs to be fully softened before mixing. This will give the dip a smooth, creamy texture and make it easier to combine with the other ingredients.
  • Garnish with a sprinkle of paprika or chopped fresh parsley for an extra pop of color.
  • I recommend chilling the dip for at least an hour so that the flavors meld together, making the dip even tastier.
  • After mixing, taste the dip and adjust the garlic powder, onion powder, and salt as needed. Since the pickles and cream cheese can vary in saltiness, this will make sure you have the correct balance of yumminess.
  • Fresh dill gives the dip a vibrant flavor. If you need to use dried dill, remember that dried herbs are more concentrated, so use about a third of the amount.
  • If you prefer a thicker dip, reduce the amount of sour cream or add more cream cheese. To thin it out, add a bit more sour cream.

Delicious Variations 

  • Pickle Juice – Want more pickle flavor? Add a tablespoon or two of pickle juice to the dip for an extra tangy bite.
  • Bacon Dill Pickle Dip – Add a ¼ cup of crispy, crumbled air fryer bacon for a smoky twist. Bacon pairs perfectly with the tanginess of the pickles.
  • Greek Yogurt – If you prefer a lighter version, swap out the sour cream for Greek yogurt. It still keeps the dip creamy while adding a boost of protein.

Prep And Storage

  • Prep Ahead – This dip can be made a day in advance, which is perfect if you’re prepping for a party. The extra chill time improves the flavor. I would only garnish the dip when serving.
  • Store – Store the dill pickle dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Give it a good stir before serving, as the ingredients may separate slightly during storage.
  • Freeze – I do not recommend freezing this dip. Cream cheese and sour cream don’t freeze well as they change texture when thawed, becoming grainy or watery.

Can I use dried dill instead of fresh dill weed?

Yes, you can substitute dried dill for fresh dill weed. Use 1 teaspoon of dried dill for every tablespoon of fresh dill weed.

Can I adjust the thickness of the dip?

If you prefer a thicker dip, you can add less sour cream or more cream cheese. Conversely, for a thinner consistency, add a little more sour cream.

Can I make this dip vegan?

You can try using vegan cream cheese and sour cream substitutes to make a vegan version of this dill dip.
