Ingredient Notes

  • Ham – Use thinly sliced deli ham for the best texture and flavor. It adds a savory, meaty element to the pinwheels.
  • Tortillas – Soft corn tortillas are ideal as they roll up easily and hold the fillings well. Make sure they are fresh to avoid cracking.
  • Dill Pickles – For a tangy and crunchy addition, choose your favorite dill pickles. Thinly slice them for even distribution.
  • Salt and Pepper – A pinch of salt and pepper enhances the flavors of the other ingredients. Adjust to taste.
  • Cream Cheese – Regular or reduced-fat cream cheese works well. Ensure it is softened for easy spreading and a creamy texture.
  • Garlic Powder – Adds a subtle garlicky flavor that perfectly complements the other ingredients. Use it sparingly for the best balance.
  • Dill weed – This herb adds a nice flavor to the filling.

  • Other ingredients to consider include turkey, roast beef, or even shredded chicken if you want to add some protein.
  • Spices like onion powder or smoked paprika can add extra flavor. Fresh herbs like parsley or chives can also enhance the taste.
  • Swap out cream cheese for a flavored cheese spread, or use Greek yogurt for a tangy twist.
  • Skip watery veggies like tomatoes to prevent soggy pinwheels. Stick to firmer options like bell peppers or cucumbers.
  • You can prepare these a day in advance, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate until ready to slice and serve.

FAQs

How do you make pinwheels that don’t fall apart?

Roll the tortillas tightly and chill them in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before slicing to keep the pinwheels from falling apart.

Make sure to spread the ingredients evenly and use fresh, soft tortillas. Thin layers of fillings also help maintain their shape.

How to assemble a pinwheel wrap?

Spread a thin, even layer of cream cheese over a soft tortilla to assemble a pinwheel wrap.

Add your desired fillings, like thinly sliced ham and dill pickles. Then, roll the tortilla tightly, refrigerate for about 30 minutes to firm up, and slice it into bite-sized pieces.

Do you put pinwheels in the fridge?

Yes, refrigerate pinwheels for about 30 minutes before slicing.

This helps firm up the fillings, making them easier to cut and ensuring they hold their shape. You can also store them in the fridge until you’re ready to serve.

I have made pickles wrapped in corn beef and cream cheese for years. I love this new twist. I used corn beef and I loved how easy and quick this was to make. I did not have fresh dill so I added a little pickle juice to make cream cheese easier to spread. Rollups were a big hit.
