Air Fryer Frozen Waffle Fries Pro Tips

  • Preheat the air fryer before cooking the waffle fries.
  • Make sure to separate any fries that may be stuck together before cooking.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer so the crinkle-cut fries cook evenly. If your air fryer is small you may need to cook this in batches.
  • If using an oven-style Air Fryer, use the middle tray for the best results.
  • While you can cook these without oil, lightly spraying the waffle fries with a bit of cooking oil can enhance their crispiness and prevent sticking. Use an oil sprayer for an even distribution.
  • Shake or flip the fries halfway through cooking.
  • Air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model. I recommend starting with less cook time, checking for doneness, then adding more time as needed.
  • It’s possible there may be a bit of liquid inside the bottom of the air fryer basket from the melted ice. If so, use tongs to remove the cooked fries and then carefully pour out excess water.
  • The waffle fries will be really hot, so allow them to cool down before eating.

Delicious Variations of Air Fryer Waffle Fries

  • Vary the fries – Make this recipe with frozen sweet potato waffle fries (yum!) or pre-seasoned crinkle cut fries.
  • Add extra seasoning – Feel free to add extra seasoning after cooking. Add the dry seasonings of your choice, such as salt, black pepper, grated parmesan, oregano, stone house seasoning, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.
  • Loaded Fries – Top the cooked waffle fries with cheese and bacon and serve with sour cream.
  • Breakfast Fries – Serve breakfast for dinner. Top your waffle fries with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and a sprinkle of shredded cheese for a delightful breakfast twist.

Prep And Storage

  • Prep Ahead – No need to prep ahead. Go straight from the freezer to the air fryer to the table.
  • Store – Frozen waffle fries in air fryer are best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze – Refreezing waffle fries is not recommended.
  • Reheat – Reheat air fried waffle fries in the air fryer.

Frozen Waffle Fries in the Air Fryer FAQs

How Long To Cook Waffle Fries In The Air Fryer

Cooking times depend on how full your basket is. Based on a 400 degrees F / 200 degrees C temperature I suggest cooking them for 8 – 12 minutes.

However if you have a fuller basket, you would need to cook them a bit longer and turn them a few more times so they cook evenly.

Can I Air Fry This With No Oil?

Yes, you can cook these without any oil. Do feel free to spray on a little bit of oil if you want them a bit crispier.

Why Are Air Fryer Fries Not Crispy?

If you are having trouble achieving cripsy waffle fries it could be due to overcrowding or cooking at too low of a temperature. Cook fries in a single layer and cook in smaller batches for the best results.

Do I Need to Thaw Frozen Waffle Fries Before Cooking?

No thawing is necessary! You can cook frozen waffle fries directly from the freezer. Thawing can actually lead to less crispy results.

How Do I Prevent Waffle Fries From Sticking Together or Sticking to the Basket?

Lightly spraying the waffle fries with cooking oil before air frying can help prevent sticking. Additionally, be sure to shake or flip the fries during cooking to ensure they don’t stick to the basket or to each other.

What’s The Best Way To Reheat Waffle Fries?

To reheat leftover waffle fries, simply place them back in the air fryer for about 1-2 minutes at a high temperature (375 degrees F/190 degrees C). This will help warm them and restore some of their crispiness.
