Fun and festive Christmas Grinch Jello Shots are perfect for holiday parties, Christmas movie nights, and as a tasty Christmas dessert.

I loooooooove the holiday season and if I could, I would happily live off of nothing but Christmas Grinch treats like Grinch Popcorn, these easy Grinch Kabobs, kid-friendly Grinch Punch, and colorful Grinch Cookies. And my latest obsession is these colorful Grinch Jello Shots.

These make a great festive treat for any Christmas party, Grinch movie night, or a simple Christmas dessert. Plus, they are a perfect way to make fun crafts with food with holiday guests.

Be aware that these include alcohol and are not for kids. But, if you want to make child-friendly jello shot cups, then you just need to make these non-alcoholic (see instructions below).

How To Make Grinch Jello Shots

Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.

  1. Line up your jello shot glasses or plastic shot glasses on a rimmed baking sheet.
  2. Place water and the gelatin in a saucepan and let sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Gently cook this mixture over medium-low heat until the gelatin has fully dissolved. Be careful not to boil the gelatin!
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the green food coloring.
  5. Add in the peppermint schnapps and vodka, mixing to combine.
  6. Transfer the jello mixture to a pitcher with a pour spout and fill your cups almost all the way to the top.
  7. Cover the shot cups with plastic wrap, then place the baking sheet in the fridge and chill for 4 hours, or until set.
  8. To serve, top each shot with whipped cream and red sprinkles or a sprinkle heart.

Non Alcoholic Version

Want to make these Christmas Jello Shots for the younger guests?

  • Dissolve about a quarter cup of granulated sugar along with the water and gelatin in the second step of the recipe.
  • Cook the gelatin as directed, remove the heat, and whisk in the green food coloring
  • Pour into cups, let cool, and top with cream and sprinkles before serving.

Christmas Jello Shots Helpful Tips

  • This recipe yields make 8 (2-ounce) jello shots or 16 (1-ounce) jello shots – so plan accordingly.
  • Make sure the jello is cool before you add in the whipped cream.
  • Add the whipped cream right before serving, otherwise, you will end up with melted whipped cream everywhere.
  • You can dip each shot glass rim in red sanding sugar for extra color.
  • If transferring the Jello mix into a bowl, you can use a ladle to fill the shot glasses.
  • Cover shot glasses either with plastic wrap or their lids if they come with some.
  • Please note that vanilla vodka also adds sweetness to this recipe. If you use plain vodka, dissolve about a quarter cup of granulated sugar along with the gelatin in the second step of the recipe.
  • It is easy to use the baking sheet to transfer them into and out of the refrigerator.

Delicious Variations

  • Feel free to use maraschino cherries instead of a red heart.
  • Use peppermint whipped cream if you can find it.
  • Omit the whipped cream if you’re not a fan.
  • Vary the alcohol – mix in tequila, triple sec, rum, etc.
  • You can make this with lime Jello for added flavor and color.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cups (295ml) water
  • ½ ounce (9.37g) unflavored powdered gelatin 2 x 0.25 ounce packets
  • teaspoon green gel food coloring
  • cup (80ml) vanilla vodka
  • cup (80ml) peppermint schnapps
  • whipped cream, sprinkles, candy hearts for garnish
