As much as I loooove summer, there is a part of me that spends those three months anxiously awaiting the arrival of Spooky Season. And the moment September rolls around, I’ll be making this super fun Halloween charcuterie board every chance I get!

Halloween party food is one of my all-time favorite things to make. It’s so much fun coming up with different snacks, treats, and drinks, from hauntingly healthy options like my Halloween fruit tray to scarily sweet monster Halloween popcorn and every spooky creation in between. And this Nightmare Before Christmas theme Halloween charcuterie board is destined to be my new favorite.

What is Normally on a Charcuterie Board?

  • Cheese: a good rule of thumb is to include at least 3 different kinds of cheese with different textures. Including one hard cheese, a softer spreadable cheese, and then a stronger style cheese will ensure there is something for everyone.
  • Meat: often considered the centerpiece of a charcuterie board, it’s common to offer 3 or 4 different types of meats and plan on 2-3 ounces of meat per person.
  • Bread and crackers: for loading up with meat and cheese, you’ll often find extras like breadsticks and pretzels for added texture and crunch.
  • Fruit: the best boards will include an array of both fresh fruit and dried fruit, which provides color and flavor.
  • Extras: such as nuts, olives, pickles, fresh herbs, and even chocolates and candies.
  • Condiments: both savory and sweet are welcome additions. Think mustards, jams, jellies, compotes, and honey.

What I really love about this Nightmare Before Christmas charcuterie board is that combines my two favorite holidays—Halloween and Christmas—in one delicious meat and cheese board. In addition to serving it at all the Halloween celebrations, I think it also makes a super fun addition to Christmas parties.

Yeap, simply swap in Christmas candy and cookies and use your holiday cookie cutters (Santa hats, Christmas trees, etc.) to create some festive cheese adornments, and this Jack Skellington Halloween board will be loaded with holiday cheer.

How’s that for some easy holiday entertaining?!

Ingredient Notes

  • Dark berries – such as blackberries, purple grapes, and blueberries.
  • Jam – choose blackberry, blueberry, or grape to stay with the spooky color scheme.
  • Black olives – a charcuterie board staple and ghouslishy great for Halloween.
  • Salami – I love thinly sliced salami. You can also use Proscuitto or ham.
  • Assorted crackers – the perfect base for piling on the meat and cheese.
  • Pretzels – include regular salted pretzels, chocolate covered pretzels (dark or white chocolate), or both!

Tips For Success

  • Be sure to use a platter or a serving tray that’s large enough to hold all of the different goodies. A tray with handles makes it easy to transport too.
  • When arranging the items on the board, feel free to experiment with placement to see what works best. You can have fun trying out different set-ups each time you make it.
  • It’s better to have too much to put on your board than not enough to fill it. Having extras on hand means you can easily replenish the board as needed.
  • A full tray not only looks great but will also allow you to include more options for your guests to choose from.
  • If you’re taking your Halloween appetizer board to an event, you’ll want to assemble and wrap it in plastic wrap just before you plan to leave.
