How To Make Heart Shaped Donuts in Air Fryer

Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400F / 204C.
  2. Remove the biscuit dough from the package and use a rolling pin to roll out the dough slightly. Use a cookie cutter to cut out a heart shape.
  3. Place the dough hearts into the air fryer and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove and allow to cool while you mix the frosting with milk to thin it slightly.
  5. Dunk the top of each donut into the frosting and then top with sprinkles.

Expert Tips

  • If you don’t have a rolling pin, use the side of a smooth glass or even the palm of your hand to flatten each biscuit slightly before cutting out the heart shape.
  • Don’t have a heart cookie cutter? Use a knife to cut them into heart shapes.
  • Don’t waste the dough scraps. Gather them up and press them into a cookie cutter to make one (or two) more donuts!

Remember that air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model. I recommend starting with less cook time, check food for doneness then add more time as needed.

Delicious Variations

  • Add filling – After the donuts cool slightly, use the end of a wooden spoon to poke a hole into the donut and then pipe in a filling such as jelly, lemon or chocolate pudding, or sweetened whipped cream.
  • Cinnamon Sugar – Skip the icing and dredge the hot donuts in cinnamon sugar for a tasty churro-like treat.
  • Chocolate – Top with these heart shaped doughnuts with chocolate frosting and decorate with mini chocolate chips.

Make Ahead and Storage

  • Make Ahead – These donuts come together so fast they are easy to make when you need them, but they can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
  • Store – Store uneaten donuts in an airtight container for up to 24 hours. You can technically store them longer, but they won’t taste as fresh.
  • Freeze – We don’t recommend freezing these donuts.

FAQs

Can I Make Donuts In Other Shapes?

You’re going to love making these air fryer donuts in heart shapes, but you can use any cookie cutter you have. You can even air fry the biscuits as is and not worry about cutting shapes at all!

If you use different sized cutouts, be sure to cook similar-sized donuts together. Smaller donuts may cook quicker and larger donuts may take a bit longer.

I Don’t Have An Air Fryer, Can I Still Make These?

These donuts can be deep-fried in hot oil or cooked in a skillet with oil. Fry for about 7 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking. You can also bake these following the cooking instructions on the biscuit package, but they will not have the same texture as a donut.
