Recipe Tips
Here are a few tips to help you cook these easily.
- Use a mandoline or sharp knife to slice the banana chips.
- Cut the chips to the same width so that they cook at the same rate.
- Feel free to slice chips lengthwise if you prefer.
- Let them cool before serving as they crisp up more when as they cool.
- Use the oils you have. If not following the Whole30 plan, you can fry the banana using rapeseed oil, peanut oil, or sunflower seed oil.
- It is easy for these to go from cooked to burnt, so watch them very carefully towards the end of their cooking time.
- You might need to reduce the heat on the oil after turning the chips, as the second side cooks much quicker than the first.

Seasonings
Options are endless with seasonings. Just a little bit of salt is one of my favourite ways to snack on my banana chips. But you can:
- Change up the salt : homemade stone house seasoning {best easy tasty seasoning you can make ever), Himalayan salt.
- Vary spices : ground cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, paprika.
- Add heat : use cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes or chipotle.
- Make them sweeter : add melted chocolate, cardamom or cinnamon sugar at the end.
- Use citrus : Lemon or lime zest.
Make Ahead And Storing
You can easily make ahead for an anytime snack or eat. Simply allow the chips to cool down and then store in a dry airtight container for a week. Make sure they are completely cool so no moisture is added to the container.

FAQ’s
Are Banana Chips Healthy?
This depends on the cooking method. Baked banana chips and air fried ones are definitely much healthier than the fried version. And since you make them at home, they are preservative free and you control the salt level.
How To Peel Bananas And Cut Them
- On a cutting board, use a sharp knife to cut off each end.
- Next, while firmly holding the raw banana, slit the peel lengthwise with the tip of your knife along each seam. (Only go as deep as the peel.)
- Carefully remove each section of the peel and voilà — you have a peeled banana.
- Then lay on the cutting board and slice into circles or diagonally.
How To Keep Raw Chips From Discoloring?
To avoided the raw sliced from discoloring, the peeled raw banana should be soaked in a bowl of water and citrus juice ( 1 part citrus to about 3 parts water ) for about 5 minutes to prevent turning black. Alternatively, squeeze some lemon or lime juice directly over the sliced banana before cooking.
What Is The Difference Between Plantains And Bananas
Plantain is a starchy fruit that’s part of the banana family but it isn’t quite like a banana. Typically, you wouldn’t eat it raw because the plantain is starchier and is not as sweet as a banana. Their skins are also much thicker than bananas. You need to cook plantains before you eat them.
Bananas are less starchier. You can eat bananas uncooked as long as they are ripe, although you can cook them too if you prefer.

These were so easy to make and came out extra crispy and delicious! I love that they are so much healthier than store bought tortilla chips!
Unfortunately, this was a huge fail. The bananas were still soggy and soft after 12 minutes. When we tried to take them out to cool, they had all stuck to the basket despite spraying with non stick spray. Now I’ve got to soak my basket to release icky bananas.
Not sure about the other recipes but I tried this with the air fryer and it did not work at all. The bananas just became a sticky fibrous goo that would not come off the tray. I’d recommend another recipe.
