This is a ‘the day after Christmas’ kind of gift. Presents have been exchanged, wrapping paper has been packed away for next year, the tree is still up and bellies need to be filled. There is a tonne of left over Christmas food such as roast turkey, goose, ham, potatoes, brussel sprouts and chestnuts. Everyone has that lazy feeling but would still appreciate delicious food.
So with this in mind you can throw together a simple homemade curry kit to inspire them to turn their leftovers into a delicious fragrant warming curry. Think cinnamon quills, fragrant cardamom, aromatic cloves, warming ginger, fiery chillies, smoky paprika and nutty ground coriander amongst other things.
People loves curries and this is an easy gift that is both different and exciting. I always get glowing feedback when I give out a curry kit even from people who are difficult to buy gifts for.
You can base your kit on your tried and tested curry recipes or you can look to Anjum Anand or Madhur Jaffrey for inspiration. Remember to choose a quick, easy recipe. After all that Christmas cooking your friends will certainly appreciate it. Please let me know how it works out.

Really inspiring!! I love curries and this just gives the kick I need to make my own with ingredients I already have, rather than reach for the phone and order a takeaway. Do you have any tips for doing a fish curry? I have a whole Seabass in the freezer and reckon I could make a nice fish curry.
Hi SJ,
I am glad to be of help. For sea bass I recommend Madhur Jaffrey’s ‘whole baked fish cooked in the style of fish head curry. It is from her ultimate curry bible. If you can’t find okra then use sliced peppers as the vegetable. This curry is really good. I hope you enjoy it.
