FAQ

Is It Cheaper To Make A Fruit Display?

In most cases it is always cheaper to make your own than it is to buy a pre-made ones from the grocery store. I love the Costco fruit tray and versions form Walmart and Publix but you can certainly make your own.

Making your own allows you to customize which fruit will be on the tray and you can make it look exactly how you like it. No plain boring sectioned plates to show your fruit.

How Do You Keep Fruit From Browning?

Perhaps avoid using fruits that tend to brown easily like bananas, apples and pears if you are worried.

I recommend cutting fruit as close to serving them as possible to prevent browning.

If you have some time before the fruit is to be served, try using lemon juice or pineapple juice on the fruit that would brown fast like apple slices.

How Best To Assemble And Style Your Fruit Platter

Start with beautiful serve ware which could be be a plate, a bowl, a cake stand, a wooden cutting board. I have even used a rustic bread tin and funky baking trays to present some.

Cut your fruit into bite sized pieces and use cookie cutters to cut out some fun shapes if you have time.

Strategically place the friut on the platter – you can try and group it by rainbow colors, by fun shapes or make soem sort of patter (eg a christmas tree or star shaped during festive periods)

You can make some of the fruit into fruit skewers piled high to add a little extra height and fun to your gorgeous platter.

How Much Fruit Do You Need Per Person?

To make sure you have enough you should first work out how many people you expect and then work with the measurements below.

You need about 4 ounces of fruit per person (minus things like peels, stones, seeds etc.

So for
1 person you need 4 ounces (113g) of fruit
10 people you will need 2.5lb (1.1kg) of fruit
For 20 people you will need 5lb (2.2kg)of fruit

Prep Ahead

It’s best to buy your fruit for your tray the day before or the day of to assure you’re serving the freshest and most flavorful fruit.

You can prep this tray ahead of time on the day you plan to serve it. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator until needed.

You can also prep some fruit the night before but keep it in an airtight container. Try to wait as long as you can to cut the fruit that will brown.
