Important Guidelines For Reheating Leftover Pizza

The thinner your pizza base is, the faster it will reheat – so you will need to cook thinner pizzas for a shorter time than thicker pizzas. A rough guideline is that thinner pieces may need 3-4 minutes, and thicker slices may need 5-6 minutes.

Also, individual pieces may vary slightly in thickness, so try and put pieces of similar thickness in at the same time. That way, your pizza slices can cook at about the same rate.

You can always reduce the temperature. If you notice your reheated pizza starting to burn before it warms through, then reduce the temperature by about 25 degrees for the next batch.

Remove slices as soon as they are warmed through. Don’t be tempted to let the slices sit in the air fryer after they are warmed through. They will keep cooking and dry out or even get burnt.

Depending on what they are, your toppings may burn while reheating. So it may be worth removing the topping before reheating and adding them back in during the last 1 to 2 minutes.

So, we are reheating pizza in air fryer from now on. Are you with me?!

How To Reheat Pizza In the Air Fryer Basket

Reheating pizza in air fryer is super easy.

Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.

  • Preheat the Air fryer to 325 degrees F / 160 degrees C.
  • Remove your favorite leftover pizza slices from the refrigerator and place them in a single layer in the Air Fryer Basket. Make sure the pizza slices do not overlap.
  • Cook the pizza for 3 to 4 minutes, and quickly open the air fryer basket to check the pizza.
  • If it is warmed through to your liking, then take it out.
  • But if you feel it needs a little more time, then cook for another 1-2 minutes at a time, and keep checking until they are done.
  • Serve the hot pizza immediately.

How To Reheat Pizza In The Air Fryer Oven

Friends, this method works so easy! You reheat it exactly the same way as you would in a basket-style air fryer. The difference is that you are able to fit many slices onto the baking sheet.

Just remember to put the pizza slices on a baking tray, with space between them before warming them up.

Bear in mind that the higher the shelves in the air fryer oven you use, the quicker the pizza re-heats through.

Tips for Success

  • Air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model, so it is important to always check your food for doneness and adjust the cooking time as needed.
  • Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket or tray. You don’t want the pizza slices to stick together or to not reheat properly. And definitely don’t stack them. The number of slices you add in will depend on the size of your air fryer. I find the basket takes 2 slices or 3 slices at the max
  • If it is a small pizza, you can reheat the entire pizza.
  • Place the pizza slices directly on the air fryer basket or tray. No need for aluminum foil. You can use foil if you want to avoid melted cheese dripping into the basket. If you use foil, make sure to cut holes in the foil to allow for the best air circulation. Alternatively, use perforated parchment paper.
  • Use tongs to remove the slices from the fryer basket so you don’t burn your fingers.
  • For extra crispy slices, spray them with a little olive oil before cooking.

Storage

  • I would not store reheated pizza. Instead, store your cooled leftover pizza slice in an airtight container.
  • When reheating pizza in air fryer, only reheat fresh pizza that has been cooked once.

How To Reheat Pizza in Oven

No air fryer? No worries! I’ve figured out the best way to reheat leftover pizza using a conventional oven. Just follow these easy steps;

  • Use a rimmed baking sheet and set the cold pizza slices on it, leaving space in between the slices.
  • Cover the entire baking sheet tightly with aluminum foil, and then place in the oven.
  • Set the temperature to 275 degrees F / 135 degrees C (that’s right, do not preheat!).
  • Reheat for about 25-30 minutes, or until cheese is hot and melty and the bottom of the crust is crisped up to your liking.

FAQs

How Long To Reheat Pizza In Air Fryer?

This depends entirely on the temperature you use and the type of pizza aka thin crust or thick crust. Use the guidelines of the guide you are following. I like my pizza between 4-5 minutes.
But if you are unsure, then always test the pizza after about 3 to 4 minutes.  If not reheated to your liking, then reheat for 1 to 2 minutes at a time, checking after every extra reheat. Also, remember that as you cook, each next batch will cook a little quicker than the previous batch.

Do I Need To Use Oil?

No, you don’t need to use oil when reheating your pizza, the topping has enough oil for it to be ok…but you can. If you think your pizza is going to stick, then spray some oil on the Air Fryer Basket or tray.
Alternatively, if you want a really crispy base, then you can use this spray bottle and spray only a little bit of olive oil on the pizza base before cooking.

How Many Slices Can I Heat At The Same Time?

This depends on the size of your air fryer basket or tray. I find the basket takes 2 slices in the basket or 3 slices at the max.
If it is a small pizza, you can reheat the entire pizza in the basket. If using a tray, then it depends on the size of the tray. Add in as many slices as you can, just make sure these don’t touch each other.

Why Reheat In An Air Fryer Rather Than An Oven

Of course, you can reheat in an oven rather than an air fryer. But an oven will take you a lot longer to both preheat and heat this, and you have less guarantee of ending up with a nice crispy crust. Plus, having to cook it for a long time means it might end up dry.
Using an air fryer circulates air all around the pizza and is much quicker and more fail-proof.
P.S. you can also do this on a stovetop in a skillet but again, the toppings are not as perfectly cooked as in the air fryer.

Do You need to Preheat The Air Fryer?

The timings of this recipe require you to preheat it. However, you don’t have to but please be aware that the cooking time will be different.
