How to Make Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli
- In a medium bowl, whisk together all the ingredients to make the Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli Sauce and set it aside.
- Select the sauté mode on your Instant Pot and wait for it to read HOT.
- Next, add oil to the Instant Pot insert. Once the oil is heated, place the beef strips in the bottom of the insert a single layer. (You will have to cook in batches).
- Let the beef sear for 2 mins and then turn it over to sear the other side for 2 mins or until the beef is golden brown. Remove and set aside on a plate.
- Add ¼ cup water to the Instant Pot insert, and use your wooden spoon to deglaze the pot.
- Place the beef back in the Instant Pot, then add in the sauce mixture and stir to combine it all.
- Close the lid, set the valve to the sealing position and set to manual pressure/high pressure for 10 mins.
- When done, allow for a 10 mins natural pressure release, then perform a quick pressure release. Remove the beef and set aside on a plate.
To make the cornstarch slurry:
- In a small bowl, mix together cornstarch and water until combined and there are no lumps.
- Press sauté on your Instant Pot, add the slurry to the pot and stir to combine. Cook the slurry for about 2-3 mins, or until the sauce has thickened.
- Stir in the broccoli and cook for about 1-2 mins. Turn off the Instant Pot, add the beef back in and store to combine.
- Top your Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
- Serve and enjoy!
How to Make Slow Cooker Beef and Broccoli
No Instant Pot? No worries! Making delicious beef and broccoli using your slow cooker is easy:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together all the sauce ingredients.
- Then place the beef in the slow cooker and cover with the sauce mixture.
- Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hrs or on high for 3-4 hrs.
- About 20-30 mins before done, add in the frozen broccoli and stir to combine. Do not add any earlier, or broccoli will get too mushy.
Instant Pot Broccoli Beef Tips
- Make sure to cook the beef in batches. You don’t want some beef to be overcooked and some be undercooked. Take the few extra mins to cook in batches.
- To keep this recipe gluten free, use a gluten-free tamari sauce. And making sure the tamari is also low sodium to keep the dish from being too salty.
- Cornstarch is an important ingredient in getting the sauce to thicken up properly for this beef and broccoli Instant Pot recipe.
- Make sure to wait until the end to add the Broccoli and only cook for 1-2 mins so you don’t end up with overcooked mushy broccoli.
- This recipe calls for frozen broccoli, but if you want to use fresh broccoli instead you can. I recommend steaming the broccoli slightly before adding it to the rest of the ingredients.
Note that cooking time listed does not include time for the Instant Pot to come up to pressure or for the pressure to release.
Can You Freeze This Instant Pot Beef Broccoli Dish?
Yeap, you can freeze this Beef Broccoli Instant Pot recipe. Make sure the beef and sauce are completely cool before storing.
I also recommend separating the beef, broccoli, rice and sauce before freezing. The meat and sauce can have vastly different reheating times too, so separating them all may be your best bet.

The only thing to keep an eye on is to make sure your beef still has some juice with it so it doesn’t dry out when frozen. Place it in freezer-safe containers or bags, label with the current date, and then store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
How Do I Reheat This Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli Recipe?
To thaw your Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli from frozen, I recommend putting it in the fridge the night before. And if you’ve separated everything out, it’s super simple to reheat everything and enjoy at a later time.
You can reheat on the stove, in the microwave or even in the oven. Try reheating in small increments to get it to the right temperature without overcooking the beef and making it too chewy.
What Cut Of Beef Should I Use For Making Beef and Broccoli Instant Pot?
While this recipe calls for flank steak, which is a chewier cut of beef (like the traditional Chinese Beef and Broccoli dish usually uses), you can make Pressure Cooker Beef and Broccoli with other cuts of meat as well.
If you’re looking to use something else other than flank steak, try a London Broil or a Chuck Roast. Keep in mind that the leaner cuts of meat don’t turn out as well in the pressure cooker for this Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli homemade recipe.
When using flank steak, make sure to cut and slice it against the grain. And here’s a handy tip: if slicing flank steak is a struggle, try popping the meat in the freezer for 15 mins or so. This will make it a bit firmer so it’s easier to hold and cut properly.
Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli Variations
- Feel free to swap the beef for chicken or pork if you prefer.
- You can even make a vegan version using cubed tofu, tempeh, or Seitan.
- If you want a sweeter taste to this dish, you can increase the amount of brown sugar from ¼ cup to ½ cup.
- Toss in additional vegetables like sliced bell peppers, mushrooms, or green beans.

I’m writing on this topic these days, baccarat online, but I have stopped writing because there is no reference material. Then I accidentally found your article. I can refer to a variety of materials, so I think the work I was preparing will work! Thank you for your efforts.
The broccoli just makes it more appealing to the healthy-concern side of me. Also, just one question, Bintu – would you suggest doing this with chicken or vegan meat as I am trying to cut down on red meat. Thanks.
I haven’t jumped on the Instant Pot train very well – I keep mine in the original box, in my closet! But, this makes me want to break it out just so I can get a taste!!
