How To Make Instant Pot Chicken and Dumplings from Scratch
How to make Gluten Free Dumplings
Make sure all your ingredients (and prep containers) are free from gluten.
- Add your gluten free flour, baking powder, salt, thyme and water into a small bowl.
- Mix into a smooth dough (add a little flour if too wet or a tsp of water at a time if too crumbly).
- Break off small bits of the dough at a time and shape into a ball.
Chef’s tip –  roll the dumplings into very small balls as if they are too large they may not cook through.
Chef’s tip – feel free to use regular flour too.

Pressure Cooker Chicken and Dumplings Tips
- Make sure to add the dumplings individually into the sauce to avoid them clumping together.
- To save time, whilst the chicken is cooking in the Instant Pot, you can cook the dumplings. Cook dumplings for about 4-5 mins in some boiling chicken stock, remove from the stock and then sauté for shorter in the Instant Pot (because they will already be partially cooked).
Instant Pot Chicken and Dumplings with Biscuits
You may prefer to make Instant Pot Chicken and Dumplings with biscuits from a can. I am all for that as sometimes we just need even quicker and easier meals. Buy your favourite brand of biscuits and cut into dumpling shapes and add them instead of the dumplings. (This will, of course, make the recipe non-gluten-free.)
