Recipe Variations

Eggnog is festive and fancy all on its own, but here are some suggestions to make it extra special…

  • Try different milk – substitute the milk and cream for soy, almond, coconut milk, and more. The eggnog may not be quite as thick, but it will still be delicious.
  • Change the flavor – use chocolate milk for a flavorful twist. You can also use flavored coffee creamers in place of the heavy cream.
  • Top it off – sprinkle the top of each cup with something fun to boost the flavor. Try crushed gingersnaps, crushed peppermints, cocoa powder, crumbled bacon, and more.
  • Cook with it – eggnog can be used for dipping french toast or added to baked goods like cookies and bread.

FAQS

What About Spiked Eggnog?

As is, this holiday eggnog recipe is perfect for the whole family. But if you’re looking for an adults-only beverage to serve, then by all means mix up some boozy eggnog for the festivities.

Rum, brandy, and bourbon are the most common alcohols to add to eggnog. You may also want to try adding coffee liqueurs like Kahlua and Irish cream.

For the best results, add the alcohol after the eggnog has cooled. You can add it to the whole batch or to individual portions just before serving.

Using the yogurt function on your Instant Pot provides a fuss-free and hands-off way to make eggnog. Just follow these easy steps:

  • Pour your ingredients into the Instant Pot insert, close the lid, and vent and select the Yogurt setting.
  • When the setting is finished, check to make sure that the temperature has reached at least 160F / 71C.
  • Strain the eggnog mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or blend in a high-powered blender.

I absolutely love Eggnog, but I have never tried to make it. If this is as easy as it looks, I will be making this more often. I think that Eggnog shouldn’t be reserved exclusively for the holidays, I would drink it as a nice cold beverage in the summer. “We don’t need no stinking rules!” Thanks for the easy and thorough recipe Bintu! You Rock!
