Ingredient Notes
- Canned mango — this recipe calls for canned mango. If you’re limiting sugar, use mango that is packed in juice rather than the sweeter syrup to avoid any added sugar. Otherwise, use canned mango in light syrup. Try different brands and kinds of mango to work out which you like best.
- Lemon juice — Just to give a little extra balance.

How To Make It
Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.
Step 1. Add the canned mango along with the liquid and lemon juice to a blender and blend ingredients on high speed until smooth.
Step 2. Pour the blended base into an empty Ninja CREAMi container pint, cover, and freeze on a level surface in the freezer for 24 hours.
Step 3. Remove the container from freezer, take off the lid, and place it in the Ninja CREAMi according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Select “sorbet” and let it process.
Step 4. When done, open and quickly stir. If the mixture is not soft-serve enough, you may need to add a splash or two of water and re-spin. Feel free to repeat until you reach the desired consistency.
Bintu’s Tips
- If you have bigger cans of mango, go ahead and blend them all, pour up to the pint container fill line, then save the rest of the blended mixture in the fridge to add to yogurt and smoothies.
- Let it freeze for a full 24 hours. The sorbet base must be fully frozen to process correctly.
- If you are impatient like me, it’s a good idea to prep and freeze a couple of pints at a time so you won’t have to wait for your treat.
- Frozen treat not smooth enough? Use the re-spin function. And if it’s still not the right texture, simply add a splash of water or juice and re-spin again.
- Keep your favorite mix-ins stashed in the freezer so they’re frozen and ready to use when you add them.
- Be sure to place the pint container on a level surface in the freezer.
- Make sure your machine is assembled correctly and according to the manufacturer’s directions before processing.
- This is a great recipe to serve alongside any of these awesome pool party food ideas!
Delicious Variations
- Add mix-ins – Remember if you are going to add mix-ins, make sure to add the blended sorbet base only up to the freezer fill line.
- Vary the citrus – I love using lime juice or orange juice instead or along with the lemon juice.
- Vary the fruit – You can also use fruit like strawberries, raspberries, peaches orange, lemon, etc.
- Add herbs – Fresh herbs like mint and basil blended in give an extra boost.
- Prefer to make this a float? Then add some juice to a glass, scoop in some sorbet, top with fresh fruit, and serve.
- Feel free to serve it with extra mango chunks scattered on top.
Storage
- Prep Ahead – Since you’ll need to freeze the sorbet base for at least 24 hours before processing in the machine, it’s important to plan to prep ahead.
- Storage – Smooth out the top and freeze in an airtight freezer-safe container for up to a month.
FAQs
You certainly can. Completely freeze the mango chunks, then add them to your high-powered blender. Whiz until crumbly. Then slowly pour in the lemon juice and can juice stopping regularly to check if the whip is to your desired consistency. It will likely not be as thick as the Creami version.
I do NOT recommend using frozen fruit in the Ninja Creami, since it is not made to process hard frozen fruit, and this will likely damage your machine. Allow the fruit to thaw before using.
You can totally use fresh mango. Simply blend with some juice before adding to the pint container and freezing.
Unlike other ice cream making methods, this machine does not have a cooling mechanism. The mixture must be fully frozen in order to achieve a smooth, creamy ice cream texture when processing.
You can make so many things with a Ninja Creami, including many frozen treats such as;
Ice Cream – including lite ice cream, gelato, dole whip, sorbet, Italian Ice, and healthier options like frozen yogurt.
Drinks and frozen drinks – including frozen milkshakes, creamiccinos, slushies, smoothies, and smoothie bowls.
Yes you can. First you can try using canned mango in light syrup. If that is not sweet enough, add maple syrup or agave syrup. Start with a couple of teaspoons and add more to taste.
