Ingredient Notes
- Canned pineapple — this recipe calls for canned pineapple. It can be in chunks or rings. If limiting sugar, make sure to use pineapple packed in juice rather than the sweeter syrup to avoid any added sugar. Otherwise, use canned pineapple in light syrup. Test out different brands to work out which you like best.
- Lemon juice — Just to give a little extra balance.

Step 1. Add canned pineapple including the liquid, and lemon juice to a blender.
Step 2. Blend ingredients until smooth.
Step 3. Pour the blended base into an empty Ninja CREAMi pint container, cover, and freeze on a level surface in the freezer for 24 hours.
Step 4. Remove from freezer, take off the lid, and place in the Ninja CREAMi according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Select “sorbet” and let it process. When done, open and quickly stir.
Bintu’s Tips
- If you have bigger cans of pineapple, blend everything up, pour up to the fill line, and save the rest of the blended mixture in the fridge to add to yogurt and smoothies.
- Let it freeze for a full 24 hours. The sorbet base must be fully frozen to process correctly.
- If you are impatient like me, it’s a good idea to prep and freeze a couple of pints at a time. That way you don’t have to wait for your treat.
- Frozen treat not smooth enough? Use the re-spin function. And if it’s still not the right texture, simply add a splash of water or juice and re-spin again.
- Keep your favorite mix-ins stashed in the freezer so they’re frozen and ready to use when you add them.
- Make sure to freeze the pint on a level surface in the freezer.
- Do make sure your machine is assembled correctly according to the manufacturer’s directions before processing the sorbet.
- This is a great recipe to serve alongside any of these awesome pool party ideas!
Delicious Variations
- Add mix-ins – Remember if you are going to add mix-ins, make sure to add blended sorbet base only up to the freezer fill line.
- Vary the citrus – I love using lime juice or orange juice instead or along with lemon juice.
- Add herbs – Fresh herbs like mint and basil blended in give an extra boost.
- Add coconut milk – If you want, add in a few tablespoons of coconut milk for a tropical flavor. Gives a delicious pina colada vibe. Kinda stops being a sorbet, though.
- Vary the fruit – You can also mix in fruit like strawberries, mango, raspberries, peaches orange, lemon, etc for more flavor.
- Prefer to make this a float? Then add some juice to a glass, scoop in the sorbet, top with fresh fruit, and serve.
- Feel free to serve it with extra pineapple chunks scattered on top.
Storage
- Prep Ahead – Make sure you plan to prep ahead since you’ll need to freeze the sorbet base for at least 24 hours before processing in the machine.
- Storage – Smooth out the top and freeze in an airtight freezer-safe container for up to a month.
FAQs
You certainly can. Completely freeze the pineapple chunks, then add them to your high-powered blender. Whiz until crumbly. Then slowly pour in the lemon juice and can juice stopping regularly to check if the whip is to your desired consistency. It will likely not be as thick as the Creami version.
I do NOT recommend using frozen fruit in the Ninja Creami, since it is not made to process hard frozen fruit, and this will likely damage your machine. Allow the fruit to thaw before using.
You can totally use fresh pineapple. Simply blend it first with some juice before adding to the pint container and freezing.
Unlike other ice cream making methods, this machine does not have a cooling mechanism. The mixture must be fully frozen in order to achieve a smooth, creamy ice cream texture when processing.
You can make so many things with a Ninja Creami, including many frozen treats.
Ice Cream – including lite ice cream, gelato, dole whip, sorbet, Italian Ice, and healthier options like frozen yogurt.
Drinks and frozen drinks – including frozen milkshakes, creamiccinos, slushies, smoothies, and smoothie bowls.
Yes you can. First you can try using canned pineapple in light syrup. If that is not sweet enough then try adding in maple syrup, agave syrup. Start with a couple of teaspoons and add more to taste.
