What is a Bourbon Smash?
Typically, a smash cocktail is an iced mixed drink that spotlights delicious slices of fruit and complementary herbs. This beverage is very flexible depending on your tastes and what you have available.
As the name is a Bourbon Smash, it’s usually made with Bourbon, but can be made with your spirit of choice, like vodka, bourbon or whiskey.
Traditionally, this drink is served in an Old Fashioned Glass on the rocks (over ice).

Bourbon Peach Smash Variations
Whilst this version is one of my favorite smash drink recipes – I have created many other versions based on what I have available and what guests might like.
If you don’t have Ginger Beer or don’t care for it, no worries, you can always use other mixers, such as:
- club soda
- seltzer water
- champagne
And you can swap in whatever fresh fruit you have available for the peaches. Some fun fruit substitutions to try include:
- cherries
- apricots
- nectarines
- blueberries
- blackberries
- strawberries
- oranges
- limes
You can change out your herb garnishes as well. Others you might want to try are thyme, rosemary and basil.
Interested in a different sweetener other than simple syrup? Try using honey, maple syrup or homemade sugar syrup.
Prep Ahead and Storage
Prep Ahead – If you are going to make it ahead, then mix step 1 and 2 together but do not pour over ice or add in any garnishes until you are ready to serve.
Storage – You can store this Whiskey Cocktail in the fridge for at least 12 hours with no problem at all.
