Cooking fresh homemade biscuits doesn’t have to be a hassle. With just your food processor and 10 minutes of hands-on time, you can whip up foolproof flaky Air Fryer Biscuits (or Instant Pot Biscuits with the Air Fryer attachment).

These pumpkin biscuits are flavored with pumpkin purée and pumpkin pie spice making them just perfect for fall. They are warm and inviting and pair well with a warm mug of Instant Pot apple cider or Instant Pot Hot Chocolate.

They make the perfect grab and go breakfast, brunch treat, or snack. And I looooove pulling these out during Southern feasts, as a Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving side, or for other festive occasions along with my Air Fryer Fried Chicken or to mop up my Easy Southern Gravy. #sodanggood

Air Fryer Biscuit Tips

  • Depending on the number of biscuits you will need to cook these in 2-3 batches.
  • To end up with flaky biscuits you should avoid overworking the dough.
  • Cut straight down and avoid wriggling the cutter to get flaky biscuits.
  • Combine the dry ingredients with the cold butter to form a breadcrumb-like texture before adding the wet ingredients.
  • Be sure to brush the tops with milk before cooking to achieve a golden color.
  • Feel free to top with a cream cheese glaze or a sugar glaze.
  • If cooking in the regular air fryer, turn the biscuits halfway through the cooking time.
  • Air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model. I recommend starting out with less cook time, checking for doneness, and then adding more time as needed.

Recipe Variations

These instant pot biscuits are full of amazing fall flavor as is, but you may want to try these variation suggestions.

  • Change the spices – if you don’t have pumpkin pie spice you can try apple pie spice instead. You can also use cinnamon or even a touch of ground ginger.
  • Add herbs – sage and pumpkin pair beautifully. Add a bit of dried or chopped fresh sage to the dough before baking.
  • Top it off – Top them with something yummy. We suggest apple butter, maple butter or a drizzle of maple glaze, which can be made by combining maple syrup, powdered sugar, and milk.

FAQS

I Don’t Like Pumpkin. Can I leave It Out?

You can omit the pumpkin, but you will need to replace it with something else. We suggest swapping it for the same amount of mashed sweet potato or butternut squash.

What If I Don’t Have Buttermilk?

While I tend to think all recipes that call for Buttermilk should use actual buttermilk, I know what it’s like to not always have some on hand. So, for the times you don’t have any extra buttermilk to use, try making your own.

Check out my how to make buttermilk post to learn how easy it is to make your own homemade buttermilk. And, go ahead and make extra and freeze it so you always have extra on hand when you need it!!!
