I love oats and use them pretty regularly in my cooking and smoothies. My kiddoes are oat monsters. My eldest would quite happily down a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge bowlful of extra milky porridge before school. My youngest on the other hand demands a bowl full of uncooked ‘oaks’ as an afternoon snack. Then there are regularly flapjack making weekends, where the pleasure is split equally between stuffing their mouthful of oats as they measure out ingredients and fighting over the very last flapjack. Yeap, we go through a lot of oats every single day.

So I was excited to be invited by Quaker Oats for an exciting new unveiling. You guys probably need no introduction to Quaker Oats. These guys have been bringing us porridge oats for 140 years and you would have undoubtedly eaten something with their oats in it. Their ethos has always been to provide the whole family with wholesome goodness using simple natural ingredients.

It was really nice to meet the very personable head of the UK marketing team, who talked us briefly through the history of their oats and now their new offering. Oats are naturally gluten-free. However they can get contaminated with gluten during the farming, transporting and packaging process. Clearly not ideal if you are following a gluten-free diet and are suffering from celiac disease. So enter the team at Quaker Oats. They have developed a unique milling process which makes sure that their gluten-free oats stay free from gluten contamination.

And we then settled down to the business of tasting 4 exclusive oat recipes developed by the head chef of Ethos (a free from) restaurant.  We had a fruity oat smoothie, delicious broccoli and oat bites, as well as a fruity oat cake topped with a rather refreshing and zesty lemon cream icing.

But my absolute favourite was the create your own personalised porridge which included various toppings like cacao, blueberries, almonds and honey. The foodie in me (as well as the kiddoes) has dreams of inviting friends round for an autumnal create your own porridge brunch. You know the sort of thing where you have a huge warming pot full of porridge surrounded by every imaginable fruit, nut, dairy, sweeteners and savoury topping. One day soon folks, one day soon.
