What Is A Spritzer?

A spritzer is a popular, bubbly cocktail that’s typically made with soda and wine. This refreshing drink originated in Austria in the 19th Century.

The name came from the German word, spritzen, which translates to spray. Mixing wine with club soda dilutes the wine down anywhere from 25-50%.

This is a popular summertime drink, is the perfect celebratory drink, and livens up many holidays. And it’s also loved for being a low cab alcoholic beverage option.

Delicious Variations

This Sparkling Rose Cocktail is truly delicious just the way it is, but folks, you can always try some of these other variations for something a little different:

  • Trade out jam choice: Swap the raspberry jam for whatever you have on hand, like strawberry or mixed berry jam.
  • Swap fresh berries: Try some strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, or whatever fruit you prefer.
  • Omit or swap the mint: and use another preferred garnish.
  • Trade the rosé: Make this with your favorite red or white wine instead. You may need to add some club soda if it isn’t sparkling already.
  • Swap out vodka: If you prefer a different liquor, or you could try flavored vodkas to really mix things up.

You can use any wine you like: red, white, or rosé wine all work. This recipe uses rosé. Generally, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Pinot Noir are great choices for enjoyable spritzers too.

What’s The Difference Between A Spritz And A Spritzer?

A typical spritzer is made with wine and soda, or a sparkling rose. A spritz, on the other hand, is made with sparkling wine, like Prosseco or Champagne, mixed with bitters and soda water.
