Delicious Variations

  • Change the Seasoning – Swap out the herbs and spices for your favorite seasoning blend. Some of my favorites include chili powder, onion powder, smoked paprika and fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary.
  • Adjust the Spice – The cayenne pepper in the recipe adds a bit of spice. You can increase or decrease the amount to control the spice level.
  • Add Meat – Stir in a bit of chopped cooked bacon for a meaty, smoky flavor.
  • Vegetarian – Be sure to use vegetarian parmesan cheese to keep these vegetarian.
  • Gluten Free – Swap the breadcrumbs for gluten free bread crumbs.
  • Add A Dip – Dip these tots into ketchup, aioli, ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce (I like to pair them with this easy copycat Chick-fil-a sauce).

  • Freeze – Flash freeze on a parchment lined baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months. Bake directly from the freezer.

FAQs

Can I Freeze Tater Tots?

Yes! These freeze well, so make a double batch and freeze some for later. Place the prepared tots on a parchment lined baking sheet and flash freeze. Transfer the frozen tots to a freezer bag and store up to 3 months. Bake directly from the freezer at 425 degrees F / 218 degrees C for about 25 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time.

Can I Cook Sweet Potato Tater Tots In Air Fryer?

Lay the prepared tots into an air fryer basket being sure to leave room for the air to circulate. Cook in a preheated 400 degrees F / 204 degrees C air fryer for about 10 minutes, turning halfway through cooking.

Are Sweet Potato Tots Crispy?

These tots should be soft and pillowy on the inside and crispy on the outside. To ensure a crispy texture, leave space between the tots, spritz or drizzle them with a bit of oil and flip them halfway through cooking. If you are still having trouble getting the crunchy exterior you crave, leave them in the oven just a bit longer. They will get crispier the longer they cook.
