Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs
  • 1 roll of puff pastry or 1 tube of crescent roll dough
  • candy eyeballs

Instructions

To make in the oven

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F / 190 degrees C / fan assisted 170 degrees C / gas mark 5 and line a cookie sheet or baking tray.
  • Roll out the dough and use a pizza cutter to slice it into 1-inch strips.
  • Dry the hot dogs with paper towels.
  • Wrap dough strips around the hot dogs in a criss-cross pattern, leaving an open space on one end for the mummy's face.
  • Place on the prepared baking sheet and lightly spray with olive oil. Bake for 13 to 16 minutes or until dough is light golden and hot dogs are heated through.
  • Remove from oven and use a dab of mustard to stick on the candy eyeballs. Serve warm.

To make in the air fryer

  • Roll out puff pastry and use a pizza cutter to slice into 1-inch wide strips.
  • Dry the hot dogs with paper towels.
  • Wrap strips around the hot dogs in a criss-cross pattern, leaving space on one end for the mummy's face.
  • Place mummy hot dogs into the air fryer basket and lightly spray olive oil.
  • Air fry for 6-8 minutes at 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C until warmed through and golden brown.

Notes

  • Lightly brush with olive oil or spritz with nonstick cooking spray to prevent the mummy hot dogs from sticking. You can also use parchment paper.
  • Use a pizza cutter to slice the puff pastry into strips.
  • Cut the puff pastry into 1-inch wide strips.
  • Wrap the hot dog in a crisscross pattern.
  • Avoid overlapping the puff pastry too much as this can prevent it from cooking well.
  • Prep up to 3 days in advance. Wrap with plastic wrap and cook in the air fryer when ready.
  • Slice the hot dog in half or use little sausages for mini air fryer mummy dogs.
  • If using an air fryer, preheat your air fryer according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Storage - keep leftovers in an airtight container inside the fridge for up to 3 days.
