How To Cook Canned Peas

- 30 ounces (850g) canned peas two 15-ounce cans
- 3 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon butter
- pinch garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste
Stovetop
Open the cans of peas and drain in a colander to remove the water.
Pour the peas into a skillet or saucepan then add water, butter and seasoning.
Stir over low to medium until the butter has melted, the seasonings have thoroughly mixed in, and the peas are warmed through.
Microwave
Open the peas and drain them in a colander to remove the water from the can.
Pour the peas into a microwave-safe dish with the water, butter and seasonings. If your dish has a lid, be sure to vent it.
Microwave the peas for 1 minute and stir well.
If needed, cook for additional 30 seconds-increments until the peas are warmed through and the butter is melted.
- Look for baby peas or small peas, which tend to be sweeter than large peas.
- Drain the peas in a colander to remove the water in the can.
- Rinse the peas under cold water if desired.
- Peas are already cooked, so check the temperature frequently to avoid overcooking. You want to just warm them through.
- If microwaving, vent the lid or covering when heating.
- Serve with a slotted spoon, as there will be some liquid.
- Storage - keep leftovers in an airtight container inside the fridge for 3 days.
