One of the best parts about going to Disneyland and other similar themed amusement parks has got to be the Pineapple Dole Whip. Ok, ok, for the teens the best thing is probably the rides. But for me, erm…I am gonna stick with the Dole Whip.

So imagine my excitement when I realized that I can make this light and refreshing yet decadent soft serve treat at home. Yeap, with just 3 simple ingredients and a Ninja Creami. And not having to wait in long lines, is just the best bonus ever.

What is Dole Whip?

Dole Whip is a pineapple-flavored soft serve ice cream. This dreamy creamy dessert is simply made with pineapple, non dairy milk, and pineapple juice. All the good stuff you already own.

Oh, and the flavor variations for everyone are fun—such as adding vanilla ice cream, lemon juice, lime juice, etc. So, so good.

This easy Ninja Creami Dole Whip and my Ninja Creami vanilla ice cream will feature heavily this summer: for backyard barbecues, pool parties, the 4th of July, and afternoon treats on hot summer days. But then again, I tend to serve these all year long—because, erm, ice cream.

Ingredient Notes

  • Pineapple — this recipe calls for canned pineapple chunks, make sure to use ones packed in juice rather than the sweeter syrup to avoid any added sugar
  • Unsweetened pineapple juice — to avoid adding any extra sugar.
  • Milk — Use coconut milk to keep it dairy-free and add more tropical flavor. But you can use any milk of your choosing, like regular milk or almond milk.

Step 4. When done, open and quickly stir the dole whip. If the mixture is not soft-serve enough, you might need to add a splash or two of milk and re-spin. Feel free to repeat until you reach the desired consistency.

Recipe Tips

  • Piping, while fun, is not necessary. If you don’t have a piping bag or don’t want to pipe, then just scoop the whip into a bowl.
  • Let it freeze for a full 24 hours. The dole whip base must be fully frozen to process correctly.
  • If you are impatient like me, it’s a good idea to prep and freeze more than one pint at a time. That way you don’t have to wait for your treat.
  • Frozen treat not smooth enough? Use the re-spin function. And if it’s still not the right texture, simply add a splash of milk or juice and re-spin again.
  • Do make sure your machine is assembled correctly according to the manufacturers directions before processing.
  • This is a great recipe to serve alongside any of these awesome summer dinner ideas!

Delicious Variations

  • Vary the fruit – mango dole whip is also very popular, but you can also use fruit like strawberries, raspberries, banana, orange, lemon, etc.
  • Vary the juice – mango juice works well here, and you can also add in orange juice, lime juice, passionfruit juice, etc.
  • Vary the milk – feel free to use regular milk or plant milk of your choice.
  • Prefer to make this a float? Then add some pineapple juice to a glass, scoop in some dole whip, top with fresh fruit, and serve.
  • Feel free to serve it with extra pineapple chunks scattered on top.

Storage

  • Prep Ahead – Make sure you plan to prep ahead since you’ll need to freeze the whip base for at least 24 hours before processing in the machine.
  • Storage – Smooth out the top and freeze in an airtight freezer-safe container for up to a month.

FAQs

Can I make this without a Ninja Creami?

You certainly can. Completely freeze the pineapple chunks, then add them to your high-powered blender. Whiz until crumbly. Then slowly pour in the juice and coconut milk, stopping regularly to check if the whip is to your desired consistency.

It will likely not be as thick as the Creami version. You will also need to freeze it for about 35 minutes before transferring to a bag to pipe.

Can I use frozen fruit?

I do NOT recommend using frozen fruit in the Ninja Creami, since it is not made to process hard frozen fruit, and this will likely damage your machine. Allow the fruit to thaw before using.

Why does the Ninja Creami have to freeze for 24 hours?

Unlike other ice cream making methods, this machine does not have a cooling mechanism. The mixture must be fully frozen in order to achieve a smooth, creamy ice cream texture when processing.

What is the consistency like?

It is more like a soft-serve ice cream, which is why it is such fun to pipe.

Is this like ice cream?

This tropical dessert tastes like soft-serve ice cream, but as it is usually made with coconut milk (and no eggs or dairy), it is dairy-free.

What Can You Make With A Ninja Creami?

You can make so many things with a Ninja Creami, including many frozen treats.

Ice Cream – including lite ice cream, gelato, dole whip, sorbet, Italian Ice, and healthier options like frozen yogurt.
Drinks and frozen drinks – including frozen milkshakes, creamiccinos, slushies, smoothies, and smoothie bowls.
