How To Make Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo
Pressure Cooker Shrimp Alfredo Ingredients
To make Shrimp Alfredo in Instant Pot, you will need the following ingredients:
- shrimp
- broth
- heavy cream
- minced garlic
- capers
- Italian seasoning mix
- lemon zest
- kosher salt
- black pepper
- spaghetti
- mascarpone cheese
- parmesan cheese
- cornstarch (optional)
- water
Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo Instructions
- Add broth, garlic, capers, Italian seasoning, lemon zest, salt, pepper and shrimp into the Instant Pot. Stir to combine.
- Break the spaghetti in half so it fits easier and add it to the Instant Pot insert. Distribute the pasta evenly, but do not stir it in. Instead, gently press the spaghetti down to soak up liquid. Make sure the pasta pieces are not stuck together or they won’t cook right.
- Pour the cream on top of the pasta.
- Cover and turn the valve to the sealing position. Set to manual pressure cook for 2 mins.
- Once cook time is complete, allow for a 5 mins natural pressure release, then perform a quick pressure release to release the rest of the steam.
- Carefully remove the lid and stir the pasta gently. Let your Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo stand for about 1-2 mins. Then add the parmesan cheese and gently stir until combined.

How to Make Instant Pot Shrimp Pasta Cornstarch Slurry
If you’d like a thicker sauce, follow the directions below to make a cornstarch slurry that can be mixed into your shrimp alfredo sauce
- Mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl until fully combined.
- Select the sauté function on your Instant Pot, add the cornstarch slurry to the Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo, stir and then simmer for 2 mins.
- The alfredo sauce will thicken as it cools. If the sauce is too thick, simply stir in a bit more broth.

Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo Tips
- Cooking time does not include the time for the Instant Pot to come up to pressure or for pressure, or for the pressure to release.
- Make sure the pasta pieces are not stuck together as you add it to the Instant Pot.
- The dry pasta needs to soak up some of the liquid to ensure it cook properly.
- You can double or (even triple) the ingredients in this recipe to feed a crowd without having to adjust the cook time! Yeap. The cook time remains the same whether you are making 8 ounces, 16 ounces, or 24 ounces of pasta.
How to Avoid a Burn Notice
The burn notice is an indication that your Instant Pot is overheating. It is often triggered when ingredients get stuck on the bottom or side walls of you Instant Pot insert.
To avoid the burn notice when making Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo, make sure to NOT stir the pasta into the rest of the mixture.
And adding the mascarpone and parmesan cheese at the end of the recipe, after the cook time is complete, will help prevent that dreaded burn notice.

Pressure Cooker Shrimp Pasta Variations
Love this Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo recipe but want to try a different take on it?
- Why not change out some of the spices and see what other flavors you can bring in this recipe?
- Try a different pasta with this Instant Pot Shrimp dish. Linguine or Fettuccine are common pasta choices for Alfredo sauce recipes.
- Swap out the shrimp for cooked chicken.
- Want to make your shrimp pasta carbonara style? Add in some crispy bacon (like my Air Fryer Bacon) to your Pressure Cooker Shrimp Pasta before serving.
- If you’re an avid cheese lover, feel free to sprinkle in some more Parmesan cheese, shredded Mozzarella or your other cheese of choice.

What Size Shrimp To Use In Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo?
Jumbo Shrimp are a great option to use in this Pressure Cooker Shrimp Alfredo dish. Keep in mind that as your shrimp cooks, they will shrink in size, so jumbo shrimp will end up more bite-sized in your cooked dish.
Can You Use Frozen Shrimp In Instant Pot Shrimp Pasta Recipe?
I prefer to use thawed shrimp for this recipe, since they’re easier to peel, tail and devein if necessary. You also need to keep in mind that if using frozen shrimp in this recipe to save time, the recipe may turn out more watery than originally intended.
What Is The Best Shrimp For Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo?
For this Shrimp Alfredo Instant Pot recipe, make sure you are using peeled shrimp, meaning shrimp without their shells. If necessary, you may want to devein shrimp and remove tails as well.
