Quick Cook Chicken Fajitas
Air Fried Chicken Fajitas are full of affordable everyday pantry staples and are a great go-to for Mexican nights, Taco Tuesdays, Fiestas, dinner tonight, school lunches, and brunch spreads.
One of the reasons that I love making fajitas in the air fryer is that they are ready to serve much quicker than when I cook them in the oven or on the stovetop. Using the air fryer makes cooking these flavorful chicken fajitas totally fuss-free.
Made with minimal prep, done in one pan, and minimal clean up too. It doesn’t get better than that!

What Are Fajitas?
Just in case you were wondering, Fajitas is an awesome Tex Mex dish normally cooked on a skillet, so you end up with delicious chicken and vegetables that you can eat as is, in wraps, with rice, and more.
Typically, fajitas are served with warm tortillas (flour tortillas are most common, but corn tortillas are also an option) on the side, along with various mix-and-match toppings such as sour cream, salsa, lime wedges, guacamole or avocado slices, and more.

These air fryer chicken fajitas really are better than restaurant fajitas. Because they’re oh-so-easy to whip up and eat at home, they are sure to become one of your ‘go-to’ fakeaways.
Why Make This Recipe
- So Easy: air frying chicken fajitas requires only 5 ingredients and a minimal amount of prep time.
- Pantry Ingredients: Get great flavor using seasonings you already have in your pantry.
- Affordable: This is a great way to use leftover chicken breast and veggies that’ll be loved by the whole family.
- Versatile: Great for make-ahead eating, meal prep, and totally freezer friendly.
- Diet Friendly – these fajitas are gluten-free, low carb, Keto, Paleo, and Whole30 compliant (without tortillas, of course).

Ingredient Notes
- Chicken – This recipe calls for boneless skinless chicken breast cut into about quarter-inch thick strips. You can also make this using boneless skinless chicken thighs with great success.
- Bell Peppers – Feel free to use any color bell peppers you like. I like the color combination of red bell pepper, green bell pepper, and yellow bell pepper. Just be sure to cut them to about the same size as the chicken strips so it all cooks evenly.
- Onion – This recipe calls for red onion slices, but you can use any type of onion you prefer.
- Seasoning – Use a homemade version of a seasoning blend like my Fajita Seasoning or a store-bought version.
- Oil – The tiniest bit of olive oil (or vegetable oil or avocado oil) to air fry your fajitas.

How To Make Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas
Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.
- Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C.
- Combine the sliced chicken, onion slices, bell pepper slices, olive oil, and fajita seasoning in a large mixing bowl until everything is evenly coated..
- Add the chicken mixture to the air fryer basket and air fry for 14-18 minutes, tossing halfway through cooking time.
- Serve air fryer chicken fajitas as a salad (low carb) or as classic fajitas with toppings of your choice. To keep this meal low-carb, serve without tortillas, or with low carb tortillas. If not concerned about low carb, then feel free to use regular tortillas.
Note: Air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model. I recommend starting out with less cook time, checking for doneness, and then adding more time as needed.

How To Make Sheet Pan Chicken Fajitas
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F / 200 degrees C / gas 6.
- Combine all the ingredients for the chicken fajitas in a large bowl and make sure everything is fully coated.
- Add the mix to a rimmed sheet pan and cook for 18-24 minutes, turning halfway through using a large slotted turner or tongs.
- Serve air fryer chicken fajitas as a salad (low carb) or as fajitas with toppings of your choice.

Recipe Tips
- Try and make sure the chicken strips are all the same size so they cook evenly and at the same rate. Use a sharp knife to slice them.
- Cook time depends on the size of the chicken strips, onion slices, and bell pepper slices. So if you cut them small, then you might want to cook them for a couple of minutes less than this recipe states. Also, smaller pieces will char more than larger pieces.
- Toss the fajitas or shake the air fryer basket 3-4 times during the cooking time so everything has the opportunity to char for that delicious flavor.
- The meat is completely cooked through when the chicken reaches an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees F / 74 degrees C.
- If short on time or spices, just use a mix of paprika and cumin to make this.
- Feel free to double or triple the recipe to serve a crowd. But if you double the recipe, make sure to use an air fryer that is large enough to air fry the amount, otherwise it will steam, not fry. You may need to cook this in two batches.
- If you are going to serve these with tortillas, then do so with warmed tortillas.

Favorite Fajita Toppings Ideas
You can really go to town with the toppings you add to this flavorful dish. Just make sure they fit whatever diet you may be following;
- For both color and flavor, you can top it with a little fresh cilantro and shredded lettuce.
- I prefer sour cream, but you can use lime crema, or plain Greek yogurt with a little lime juice mixed in.
- Salsa or Pico de Gallo works well. In a pinch, just use some sweet fresh tomatoes diced up.
- Cheese – use your favorite shredded cheese or some Cotija.
- You can add extra bulk with items like refried beans, charred corn, and rice.
Delicious Variations
These air fryer chicken fajitas are good as is. But if you want, you can use some of the following suggestions to vary the recipe;
- Vary the herbs and spices – feel free to add onion powder, garlic powder, or dried oregano.
- Add citrus – the addition of a little lime juice, lime zest, or lemon zest will enhance the flavors.
- Vary the meat – You can just as easily make these with skinless turkey breast or skirt steak.
- Spice it up – If you like heat, then add in some chipotle paste, chili powder, cayenne pepper, or red pepper flakes.
- Add other veggies – while the peppers and onions are enough, I have added in at the end others like charred corn and black beans when not on a low carb diet.
Homemade Fajita Seasoning
Fajita seasoning mix is a spice blend of paprika, cumin, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, chili powder, and oregano that you can easily mix together and store in airtight spice jars or mason jars in your pantry.
Check out this easy homemade fajita seasoning recipe which is a good baseline for you to make your own fajita spice blend.
This chicken fajita seasoning mix is super easy to adapt and change as you see fit. Start with 1 to 2 teaspoons of the fajita spice in each recipe, and you can always add more to taste.

Prep Ahead And Storage
- Prep Ahead (uncooked version) – This air fryer chicken fajitas recipe is so easy to make. Season the raw chicken and vegetables with the oil and seasoning mix ahead of time and then keep them in the refrigerator for a couple of days before cooking.
- Store – Store leftover chicken fajitas in an airtight container inside the fridge for up to 5 days.
- Freeze – Follow the handy tips below for how to freeze this. Transfer into freezer bags (with air squeezed out) or meal prep containers. Label and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. To make reheating easier, freeze in the right portion sizes that you need for the future.
- Thaw – Remove from the freezer the night before needed and let it thaw in the fridge.

FAQs
At 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C, it will take somewhere between 14-18 minutes to cook chicken fajitas in air fryer.
The most important thing is to make sure that the chicken must reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F / 74 degrees C before serving. Use a digital meat thermometer to check the temperature.
You can avoid overcooking by making sure the chicken is sliced into strips that are a quarter-inch in thickness.
I also recommend that you start off with less cooking time, check for doneness, then add more time as needed.

If you don’t even like to read, I think this article https://invezz.com/news/2022/12/22/5-best-dogecoin-betting-sites-that-you-can-trust/ will be very interesting for you. A lot of people worked on it. I read it and learned a lot of new things. Thank you all for your attention.
I wish to compliment you not only on your excellent selection of recipes, but your presentation of each and every recipe. I have spent the past week gathering recipes for a friend who is new to air frying, she received a Vortex air fryer oven as a gift. Your website and the exact information you give, plus the many extra options really stand out far about the rest. It has been a nightmare finding decent recipes as half of the time, they do not give the number of servings for recipes, or the prep and cooking times are all wrong or they contradict themselves in their own recipes.
So I want to sincerely thank you for the effort you put into your website, truly professional standard.
