Ingredient Notes
- Oats – This strawberry overnight oats recipe uses old fashioned rolled oats for the best result. Steel cut oats will not work. If following a gluten-free diet, then make sure to use gluten-free oats.
- Milk – I use whole milk, but you can also use 2% milk, almond milk, soy milk, cashew milk or oat milk.
- Sweetened – a little bit of pure maple syrup will sweeten this strawberry oatmeal. However, you can also use honey, sugar, or agave nectar. When I make it for just me, I omit the sweetener altogether.
- Yogurt – You need plain Greek yogurt for this, which has the advantage of adding in extra protein.
- Strawberries – use fresh strawberries, the sweeter the better.
- Vanilla extract – a little bit of extra flavor. But you can omit if you desire.
- Shredded coconut – unsweetened shredded coconut adds extra flavor and texture. Feel free to toast this before adding.

How To Make Strawberry Overnight Oats
Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.
- Mash a third of the strawberries in a bowl and then add in the yogurt, milk, and oats.
- Mix well and set in the refrigerator overnight or ice chest. The oat mixture will be thick, but that is ok!
- Decant the mixtures into mason jars (or bowls) and top with remaining chopped strawberries and coconut.

Expert Tips
- Divide before chilling – just portion into the right-sized serving amounts before refrigeration or storing so it is easy to take one and go as needed.
- If you are meal prepping, then simply double the batch and portion it out into individual bowls or mason jars for an easy breakfast meal prep.
Delicious Variations
- Nutty Version: Add a crunch by mixing in chopped nuts like almonds, walnuts, or pecans. You can also sprinkle nut butter on top for an extra layer of flavor.
- Chia Seeds Boost: Incorporate a tablespoon of chia seeds into the mix for added texture and nutritional benefits. Chia seeds will absorb some of the liquid and create a thicker consistency.
- Banana Strawberry: Slice some ripe bananas and layer them with the strawberries for a delightful strawberry-banana combo. The natural sweetness of the bananas complements the strawberries beautifully.
- Chocolate Strawberry: If you have a sweet tooth, consider adding a tablespoon of cocoa powder or chocolate chips to the mixture for a chocolate-covered strawberry taste.
- Mixed Berry: Use a mix of berries such as blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries to make a berry medley overnight oats.
- Cinnamon Spice: Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon into the oats for a warm and cozy flavor boost.
- Protein-Packed: Enhance the protein content by stirring in a scoop of your favorite protein powder. This is great for those looking to power up their breakfast.
Prep and Storage
- Prep ahead – Mix all the ingredients overnight, divide into servings, and then chill.
- Store – Refrigerate leftovers for up to 5 days.
- Freeze – I don’t recommend freezing this.
FAQs
Start with equal parts oats and milk and then half as much yogurt. If your yogurt is very thick you may need to thin oats out with a little more milk. Feel free to play around with the amounts to see what works for you.
You don’t have to – Whip up a big batch in one bowl and chill. You can take what you want from the bowl as you need.
If your oats are too thin, you can fix by mix in a little extra oats or even chia seeds and letting these stand for 15 minutes. If oats are too thick, then mix in a little extra milk.
These are great because they can be soaked overnight. However you will not always have time for this, so you can soak them for 3-4 hours
