Why Make This Strawberry Waffles Recipe
- Perfect for Using Leftovers – Ideal for a perfect breakfast, brunch, or whenever you want to use those extra berries or other fruit.
- Perfect Texture – Enjoy a light and fluffy interior with the best crisp edges.
- Simple and Homemade – Whip up these from scratch using just a handful of ingredients you already have at home.
- Quick and Easy – All you need are 2 bowls, 1 waffle iron, and less than 30 minutes to make.
- Perfect for Serving A Crowd – Easily double or triple the recipe to entertain a crowd or freeze for future enjoyment.
Ingredient Notes
- Flour – For this, you need plain all-purpose flour.
- Fresh Strawberries – You can use fresh (which gives the best results) or frozen strawberries. If using frozen berries, thaw them first and remove the excess liquid before mashing or dicing.
- Baking powder – This is what gives the waffles their fluffy texture.
- Milk – I used whole milk, but you can use non-dairy milk like almond or coconut milk.
- Eggs – Use large eggs for this. Alternatively, you may need to use 3 medium eggs.
- Vanilla extract – Adds extra flavor to your waffles.
- Melted butter – I use salted butter for this but you can also use olive oil. It will not have as rich a taste.
- Sweetener – You can use maple syrup, honey, or agave syrup to your preference.

How To Make Strawberry Waffles
Get the complete ingredients list and instructions in recipe card below.
Step 1. Preheat the waffle iron. Mix all the dry ingredients in one bowl. Lightly mash your strawberries into a rough puree in another bowl. Add the remaining wet ingredients to the mashed strawberries and mix. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix until just combined.
Step 2. Lightly spray the preheated waffle maker and pour in the waffle mix. Remove when golden. Keep the finished waffles warm while cooking the remaining batter.
Expert Tips
- If starting with frozen strawberries, let them defrost and drain out most of the excess liquid before using them.
- If your waffle batter is too thick, then mix in a couple of tablespoons of milk at a time. If too thin, then mix in a couple of tablespoons of flour at a time.
- For the best results, make sure the waffle iron is thoroughly warmed up before you add in the batter.
- Keep the cooked waffles warm by storing them in the oven for 5-10 minutes at 200 degrees F / 94 degrees C on a wire rack on a baking sheet.
- Ensure that the waffle iron is lightly oiled or sprayed before cooking each batch so that the waffles can be easily removed after cooking.
- Do not open the waffle iron halfway through the cooking time.
- Increase the heat on the waffle iron for crispy, golden brown waffles, but watch them so they don’t burn.
- It is okay to have some lumps in the batter. Avoid overmixing it, as this will make the waffles dense.
- Don’t overfill the waffle maker, as the batter will run out and make a big mess.
Delicious Variations
- Vary the fruit – use raspberry or blueberries instead.
- Vary the flour – Swap a third of the flour for wholewheat flour for a nuttier taste.
- Add in chocolate – Add some white or semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Prep And Storage
Waffles with strawberry are perfect for meal prep; make them in advance and store in the refrigerator or freezer for when you need them.
- Prep Ahead – Make the batter the night before and you can have fresh strawberry waffles for breakfast or brunch.
- Refrigerate – leftover waffles can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- Freeze – Place cooled waffles on a lined baking tray, freeze them, and when frozen, transfer them into ziplock freezer bags, squeeze out all the extra air, seal the bags, and freeze for up to 1 month.
- Thaw – remove them from the freezer the night before needed and let it thaw in the fridge.
- Reheat waffles – To warm up waffles, you can either reheat them in the oven at 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C for about 8-10 minutes or place them in the toaster.
