Ingredient Notes

You only need a few ingredients to make this.

  • Chickpeas – this uses garbanzo beans aka chickpeas drained and rinsed from a can. Dry the chickpeas thoroughly using paper towels or napkins before adding the seasoning in.
  • Oil – For the best results use a good quality olive oil, but canola oil and peanut oil works too. The olive oil coats the chickpeas and helps make them crispy.
  • Seasonings – smoked paprika and cumin give this all the smoky flavor.
  • Salt – feel free to use the best sea salt and pepper (if you want) to complete this delicious snack.

Recipe Tips

Some tips to help you make the perfect roasted chickpeas air fryer.

  • For the chickpeas to crisp up, you have to make sure they are completely dry before you add the spiced oil mixture. Dry them using dish cloths. You can put them all in one scrunched up dish cloth and roll them around in it, or you can dry them by rolling them between 2 napkins. You can also dry chickpeas in the air fryer basket too.
  • You can add an extra minute or two for crispier chickpeas. Do keep an eye on them though as they burn very quickly.

Plus…….

  • If you want to prep ahead the chickpeas, then do and let them cool down completely before keeping in an airtight container for a couple of hours.
  • Do not overfill the air fryer basket so that enough air circulates to crisp up the chickpeas.

Chefs tip: the longer you cook the chickpeas they crisper the become. These below were cooked for 15 mins.

As air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model, this recipe includes a range of suggested cook times.

Delicious Variations

  • Vary the spices – You can easily vary the spices you add to the chickpeas to your taste. Add others like garlic powder, onion powder,
  • Add in heat – These also work well with a dash of sriracha or chipotle sauce or chili powder mixed in.

Storage

  • Store cooled chickpeas at room temperature in a paper bag for a couple of days.

FAQs

Is The Air Fryer Better Than The Oven?

Yes it can be. Don’t use more than 2 tbsp in your air fryer when “frying” anything which is great for your waistline.

The air fryer uses a power fan to move air throughout while cooking your food. The air fryer is quicker than the convection oven and will crisp your food faster and better than the oven.

What Temperature To Air Fry Chickpeas?

For this recipe you need to air fry chickpeas at 390F.

If you fry them at a lower temperature you may need to add a little bit more cook time.

Chickpea Seasoning

Other seasoning you can use for this includes Italian Seasoning, Seasoned salt, and Tuscan Seasoning.

What Is The Serving Size?

On can of chickpeas will serve 4 fas a snack.

I’m actually eating these right now! I just made them and they’re delicious! (I added 1/4 tsp. of cayenne pepper just to bring a slight heat to them). Great snack and incredibly easy!

Love these spicy little protein bites. I make them at least twice a week. sometimes I even share them with friends. I’m thinking next time I’ll use Tony Chacherie’s Cajun seasoning.

These were yummy! I cooked them longer in Air Fryer because I like them very crispy. How long will these keep in a mason jar? Do they need to be kept in fridge?

    1. Ok these were so good I just ate a whole can of chickpeas all by myself! I used a little bit more than 2 tsp olive oil so I hade some left over in the bowl also loved the cumin and smoked paprika and also used a little low sodium taco seasoning. YUM these were awesome! I took them out a little sooner, about 10 minutes so they were still really soft and creamy on the inside. Will try with ranch and then lemon pepper next.
