Expert Tips

  • Choose fresh, plump garlic bulbs. Look for ones with firm cloves and avoid bulbs that feel soft or have green sprouts.
  • Trim about ¼ inch off the top of each garlic bulb to expose the cloves. This allows the heat to penetrate and evenly roast the garlic.
  • Lightly drizzle olive oil over the exposed cloves. Use your fingers or a pastry brush to ensure each clove is coated, but be mindful not to overdo it – a little goes a long way.
  • Individually wrap each prepared bulb in aluminum foil. This helps create a steamy environment that aids in softening and roasting the garlic.
  • You can turn the garlic packet halfway through cooking for more even cooking.
  • For individual cloves, buying peeled garlic is a time saver
  • When wrapping the cloves in foil, seal the packet but leave it loose so the cloves cook evenly.
  • You may also wish to separate the garlic into several foil packets
  • Preheat your air fryer to ensure even cooking of your food.
  • Roast the garlic bulbs at a moderate temperature for around 25-35 minutes. The time may vary depending on the size of the garlic and your air fryer model.
  • Keep an eye on them to prevent burning. The garlic should become soft and golden.
  • To check if the garlic is done, carefully open the foil and gently press a clove. It should easily mash under light pressure.
  • Once roasted, let the garlic bulbs cool slightly before handling. They’ll be hot!
  • Save the garlic infused oil. It will be a flavor enhancer for any recipe.

Delicious Variations

  • Fresh Herbs – For an extra layer of flavor, you can add a sprig of fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme before wrapping the garlic in foil.
  • Dried Herbs – Sprinkle the garlic with a blend of dried herbs, such as Italian seasoning.
  • Spicy Garlic – Add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes before sealing.

Prep And Storage

  • Prep Ahead – Peel individual cloves in advance and store them in the fridge until you are ready to cook.
  • Store – If not using immediately, store leftover roasted garlic cloves in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.
  • Freeze – The easiest way to freeze roasted garlic into usable portions is to separate the garlic into ice cube trays. Freeze, pop out the cubes, and store them in an airtight container. To use, simply add the frozen garlic cubes to your recipe as it cooks.

FAQs

Can I Roast Minced Garlic in the Air Fryer?

This recipe is intended for whole garlic bulbs or individual gloves. The small pieces of minced garlic will cook unevenly and are more likely to burn and taste bitter rather than becoming soft and mellow.

Can I Roast Garlic without Removing the Skins?

Yes, you can roast garlic cloves with the skins on. After roasting, you can gently squeeze the cloves to extract the soft roasted garlic from the skins. However, removing the skins before roasting allows for more even exposure to heat and flavor infusion from the oil.

How Do I Use Roasted Garlic?

Air fryer roasted garlic can be spread on warm bread, mashed into potatoes, blended into sauces, stirred into soups, and used as a marinade for meats and seafood.

Elevate your culinary creations by incorporating roasted garlic into pasta sauces, salad dressings, grain bowls, pizza toppings, and creamy dips.
