Yogurt is one of my favorite ever foods, and it’s even better in frozen yogurt form. And since I always have a couple of pots of greek yogurt in my refrigerator, it was not much of a leap for me to make froyo in my Ninja Creami.

Ninja Creami Froyo

This Ninja Creami frozen yogurt is a favorite with my family. It’s a creamy, thick, sweet yet tangy frozen treat with a whole bunch of protein. I’m talking up to 15g of protein in every cup of yogurt. So aaaaaall the good stuff.

Like my Ninja Creami mango sorbet, making frozen yogurt at home is the best thing since I know there are only 2 ingredients in it, I can keep it a healthier treat by limiting the amount of added sugar, and I can make it just with 5 minutes of effort. Yeap, it is that simple and easy.

While teens tend to have it as dessert, I love it as a breakfast or brunch treat with a side of fresh fruit and a sprinkling of granola, almonds, and seeds, especially in the warmer spring and summer months.

Ingredient Notes

  • Yogurt — this recipe calls for Greek yogurt. I tend to use this since it is protein packed, and I use plain yogurt without any flavorings or sugar. I prefer to add sweetness and flavor myself. Try different brands and different kinds of yogurt to work out which you like best.
  • Maple syrup — To add a touch of sweetness. Add more or less to your taste.

Bintu’s Tips

  • Let it freeze for a full 24 hours. The yogurt base must be fully frozen to process correctly.
  • If you are impatient like me, it’s a good idea to prep and freeze a couple of pints at a time. That way you don’t have to wait for your treat.
  • Frozen yogurt not smooth enough? Use the re-spin function. And if it’s still not the right texture, simply add a splash of water and re-spin again.
  • Keep your favorite mix-ins stashed in the freezer so they’re frozen and ready to use when you add them.
  • Make sure to place the pint container on a level surface inside the freezer.
  • Be sure your machine is assembled correctly according to the manufacturer’s directions before processing.

Delicious Variations

  • Add mix-ins – Remember, if you are going to add mix-ins, make sure to add the blended yogurt base only up to the freezer fill line. See mix-in ideas below.
  • Vary the yogurt – Try different yogurt flavors and varieties. Keep an eye on the sugar levels though. Use vanilla yogurt to make a Ninja Creami vanilla frozen yogurt or chocolate yogurt to make a Ninja Creami chocolate frozen yogurt. My main variation is vanilla Greek yogurt, to which I add different mix-ins.

Mix In Ideas

  • Fresh fruit – Try strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, chopped mango, etc.
  • Nuts – I love mixing in almond flakes or chopped walnuts and pecans. Alternatively, you can add in nut butters (I’m looking at you, almond butter).
  • Seeds – I always have a jar of mixed seeds, such as pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, linseeds, etc. on hand for serving alongside yogurt.
  • Granola – Although I prefer to just sprinkle granola on top of the yogurt.
  • Zest – Lemon zest and orange zest are two of my favorite mix-ins.
  • Chocolate – Try your favorite chocolate chips or chocolate shavings.

Storage

  • Prep Ahead – Make sure you plan to prep ahead since you’ll need to freeze the yogurt base for at least 24 hours before processing in the machine.
  • Storage – Smooth out the top and freeze in an airtight freezer-safe container for up to a month.
